My fellow SilmFilmers,
... actually it's blind coincidence that this is three years after Glorfindel's SotP Address. I'm posting now because, with the return of our admin, Chronicler, we stand a chance of seeing an explosion in membership. Before all those new members make a post saying "I've got a great idea! Let's do the whole thing as an interpretive dance!" I figured it miiiight be an idea to lay out where we are - and, more importantly, what you can do to help.
Screenwriting
As ever, the Screenwriting section has seen the most activity, thanks largely to the tireless work of Glorfindel. At present, we have no less than three completed first drafts, as outlined in this thread.
Obviously, all three will need editing - even the first ten scenes of FotN (H) which have already been gone over several times. For best control of the process, here's how it will be done:
-The Lay of Luthien is orphaned, its writer uncontactable; anyone who wants to start the editing thread should feel free to do so. Make sure to allow for contributions from other members, though.
-Fall of the Noldor (G version) is Glorfindel's baby. I'm not going to dictate how he handles the editing; that will have to wait until he posts again. (Glorfindel - please reply here and we'll sort this out!)
-Fall of the Noldor (H version) is my baby. I'll be starting a Thematic Editing thread soon (so, for instance, to edit every instance of the Valar for consistency, and then every appearance of Finarfin). Scene-by-scene editing will take place after that.
Additionally, we have two in-progress scripts:
-The War of Wrath. I am in the middle of writing this. Any comments on what is already written should be posted to that thread, as should any suggestions (although, be warned, I have a lot of the plot worked out). Full-scale editing will wait until the script is complete.
-The Fall of Gondolin translation project. I have begun work on translating kikefriki's script from Spanish, using Google Translate, common sense, and a hint of my own writing ability. This is not a personal project, and if anyone wants to chip in with the next section, they're more than welcome. Just don't simply post the GTranslate text - it's riddled with errors. Additionally, if anyone wants to write their own FoG from scratch, they should announce themselves and get cracking - the translation was just my gap-filling measure.
Finally, there is The Tale of Turin/Children of Hurin. We've had a few people make stabs at this, but they can be discarded if someone wishes to start their own version - or can be used if someone wishes to continue with any of them.
Conceptual Art & Score
These are completely empty sections. If anyone has anything they'd like to start in there - such as potential work for any of the scripts - go right ahead. I have no talent in either, so it's way outside my ballpond.
Voices
This section should probably stay 'dead' until we have something approaching a finished script.
Introducing New Members
It is just possible that people will think of someone they know who'd be interested in joining up. By all means, invite them - but please don't go wild. This is a small, slow board with very few senior members - and only one administrator. Until we know who a few of you are, it'd be worthwhile not bringing in half a hundred others to confuse everyone.
(For this reason, I won't be reminding the PPC Board that we exist - yet)
And... welcome, one and all! It's been eight years - here's to eight more.
