All right, all right, I won't send you hunting for the answers in the old threads so...
1. I think I know what you mean but give an example. I liked the films but some did not. We want to include as much as possible without diluting the story tell process.
2. Any sample of anything is cool to post.
3. I don't want Chris sending the "Riders of the Mark" after me, but we are operating this for our own edification and pleasure. It is our hope to draw some interest to the viability of "real" films being made on the source material but we are not attempting to make any money, gain any personal notoriety, win any contest, send this to any film festival or the like. This would be similar to some of the fan fiction sites where stories are just for the members enjoyment or for the occasional visitor.
Hopefully we will not encounter any opposition in this endeavor but we live with the knowledge that we could be told not to continue.

ok, an example is..: in the films the elves are portrayed as ancient, sad and wise race, with light eminating from them, and sad mystical music playing in the background, but in the hobbit they a joyfull, playfull and make jokes about Bilbo and the dwarf, in the film treebeard is a giant tree, in the book the ents are men that are covered in tree looking stufff. that help you understand what i mean?
and cool, but you better keep your heads down about this, if you start posting it on the internet and t starts getting really popular then you might get stopped or worse fined, but coool carry on you may even be able to pay for the copyright if it gets really popular, but im gettin far to ahead, good luck!

Just a quick plug -- very busy unpacking, settling in and have two weeks of homework to catch up on which was promised this weekend -- but I wanted to poke my head in just for a minute and say that I was under the impression that we could do a U-tube movie for members only of this board for our own private enjoyment without breaking copyright laws. It is not a commercial project. I sorta picked that up when I was getting familiar with the board before I joined up. Can't tell you specifically which posts addressed the issue or even which thread it is under, but it is discussed at some point and that was my understanding. Could be wrong. I really don't know about this stuff, but I thought we were in the clear. ancalime: the head writer is hS and he hasn't been here in months. Don't know what drew him away, but "G" is our acting head writer in the absence of hS. There isn't much else we can do. He wasn't appointed officially by the Powers that be (Chronicler, hS or Ka) but it just fell in his lap and he's been trying to keep the board afloat and continue on while we wait for hS to rejoin us. This is his project and his baby so I'm sure he will return sometime in the future, but when.......only Iluvatar knows.

and before i even found out about this site i started writing the silmarillion, i have several chapters over halfway done and i plan to continue I was almost in the same boat. I had a desire to get script version done on my own when I found this site and I plan to continue my own version at a leisurely pace. I have written a version of the "Fall of the Noldor", for the project here but I will leave the other scripts to other writers. Maybe you can take a stab at the other scripts that are outstanding. @ mathers, thanks for the examples. I think, a tad of both is needed in these stories. The elves in The Silmarillion are "fearful of the hunter" but sing joyful songs about "the light of Aman". They create wonderful works of art and "fell swords". I think that for us there will be a balance between the imagery of the movies and the books.

ancalimeOoh, another writer! Yay! There's plenty for you to do. Like "G" said, he's working on his own version of Fall of the Noldor and I think he said he's gonna post it this week (I'm excited to read the rest of it ;D). As for the other scripts, take a look at Maeglin's Lay of Luthien script; it's pretty good. I'm sure he wouldn't mind your input. I've taken up the mantle for the Tale of Turin. I'm still outlining it, but there's no rush for anything. Poke around and make some suggestions. And again, welcome to the board.

As a new member to this forum, I want to say that your vision of an animated series of movies based on The Silmarillion is certainly very appealing to me. In fact, I think it's way cool! But to be serieus, as awesome the idea of an animated Silmarillion movie-project may be, don't you thing that actually making that vision a reality is not very likely (to say the least?)
Don't get me wrong, I totally support your ambition, but can anyone of you convince me of the opposite of my opinion your ambition is unrealistic (in other words, that fulfilling that ambition can be achieved) - with well-thought arguments? Because I realy want to truely believe in this project, but at this moment I don't want to bet on it.
So do you have a plan, a course of action, a roadmap to actualy make and publish these movies? And if so, which style of animation do you have in mind? Should it be semi-realistic " Final Fantasy" (the movie that is) style? Should it be a Disney-like style? Or a computer animated "Ice Age" style? The japanese Manga/Anime style perhaps (which would be great according to my opinion)?
What about the idea of using a series of Animated Silmarillion "chapters" as the background for several live-action movies, especially concerned with the more or less "completed" epic stories within the Quenta Silmarillion? I mean, a movie about Beren or Tuor would be a great and achievable goal (at least form the script-technical perspective), wouldn't it?
Don't mind my English, it's good but far from perfect since it's not my native tongue.

DaMatriX [Mairon], What is the probability? There are factors and limitations that have to be overcome for anything to work or be accomplished. But for me, it simply comes down to good old fashion...passion! I was prepared to do my own version of the Silmarillion in a, still picture, partially animated format, similar to the old "Jonny Quest" style of the 1960's. I stumbled across this site and saw that I was not alone in my ambition to try to bring to life the wonderful stories of the book. I believe that it can be done but so can getting myself in shape and losing 20 pounds. Both require dedication, focus, perseverance, assistance and hard work. I would like, at the least, to see three films done from stories in the book. I do think that a series could be done of about 20 to 30 episodes instead of films but this is not my call and I submit to the original idea of doing films. If we could get enough people involved in each needed discipline so that the load could be distributed to many and not a few...ah...that be the key. To have the ability to rotate the effort to fresh artist and having consistency (even if it is low level at times) by all of the project members, we could achieve this. Technology is our friend in this. With each passing year, the "little guy" gets more tools made available to him that did not even exist in the old days of film making or animation. I think a "Ninja Scroll" look for the stories would be great but that's just my opinion. But of course this could all fall through and fade out like it seemed to do years ago. Real movie projects have bit the dust so this one could surely do so. I cannot speak for anyone one else, but I believe in my own passion and zeal for it. I am not a gamer, I don't golf or play tennis. This is my past-time, my hobby. I love sci-fi, fantasy, adventure movies and stories so I'm at home here. Then there is my stuff..... ...I am in the process of doing my own fantasy series of stories that have been inspired by Middle-earth and Narnia but also by the stories of Sinbad, Conan's Hyborian Age, and Pirates of the Caribbean. I have outlines completed and I'm working on character development. So all that I do here is sharping my skills for the latter. Unless sickness or financial crisis limit me...Glorfindel will be here!

DaMatriX [Mairon]I am by far the least talented among my peers here on this forum. I have written poems, short stories, novelettes and one novel that I have a Literary Agent who wants to publish the latter, however time constraints do not permit me to pursue. I know nothing of screenwriting, or making films, I am no artist and not technically savvy as are so many here, but I love the book and believe it would make an awesome movie. What I have in my favor is the fact that I have actually looked at You-Tube and watched several of the "Silmarillion" mini films that are already out there. Some animated, some stills, some live action, what I saw burned my passion and caused me to think, "Wow, this is some really great stuff. Now I know that this not only can be done, but should be done. Somehow we have to make this a reality." And so I am here and I was doing some serious writing on the script until hS disappeared and "G" took over. Most of us who are here are amatures, most of us are really busy with the business of living life, but we love the book, we love both J.R.R. and Chris, we think they are both geniuses, and we want to see the book come to life, but this is just a passtime. We are not here to get rich and famous, we are not seeking to make a name for ourselves and because real life snatches us away often for long periods of time, we do not and cannot make this so serious that we lose perspective. This is supposed to be fun, it is for fun, just mere pleasure, but at times we get discouraged and lose heart because so many of us are gone for so long and sometimes people just go away and never come back because they get bored with how long things are taking, or burnt out with feeling like the whole load is on them. Please, if you have something to contribute we would love to have you with us and give us a helping hand, but please do not come here and give us a sermon about how impossible this is and spoil all of our fun and discourage those of us who are already discouraged or chase away the new ones who are so full of ambition. The project itself is daunting enough as it is. Right now we are just focused on getting the scripts completed. There isn't too much that any of our talented artists, musicians and computer experts, actors and actresses can do until we give them something to work with in the first place. Once the scripts are complete, then we will begin to pool our resources and see what if anything we can put together. As "G" said who knows, maybe it will just lie out here for awhile as it did before with nothing available, but the scripts and some fanatical artists or actress may stumble on it and have the wherewithall to put together a crew and piece it all together, or maybe we will never get past writing the scripts, which would really be a sad state of affairs after all the hard work everyone put in, but leave us to our fun. You wouldn't like it if we squashed your dream with all the reasons why it is impossible, please don't squash our dream. We already know the odds we are up against, we try not to think about them, we don't want to be reminded.

A fool's hope? Of course that was enough to save all of Middle-earth! DaMatriX [Mairon], you sound like a close writer friend of mine. He is a serious dude when it comes to writing or anything for that matter. He likes to point out the unreliability of people who agree to do projects together or the improbability of things; always questioning a persons motivation and commitment. But like Tamitha stated, this is about fun and pleasure; though we do want it to be well put together and not a joke. If you can be down with that...then come along meldir.

Hi, My name is Lothriel and I am a great lover of all of Tolkiens works. I would like to dedicate what little time and artistic skill I have towards the art and animation of these short films when the ball has started rolling. On a seperate project I've already started my "Women of Middle Earth" series of digital painting chronicalling the most beautiful and important women of Tolkiens mythos, which if you would like I'd happily post on here to help get an idea of my vision of characters. Anyway, I'm here at your disposal and I look forward to this project.

Welcome, welcome, both Lothriel and Meldon! Our hearts are glad to have two more join the ranks here. Please feel free to look at all the threads and many postings concerning the project. Post any ideas or questions that you may have. I have just completed a second version of the first film and completed posting it a few days ago. Take a look at it and at the original done by hS. Post your critiques and critizisms on both. Post any art that may help out or just give us inspiration to carry on! I also did a very rough teaser preview and posted that on my freewebs website. We are growing in over all numbers but those that are active at any given time is very low. We have hope that this will change very soon. I encourage you to dig in where you feel lead to do so, and once again, welcome aboard!

Welcome to the project SOW. Let me see.. you're not offering up a lot of information and it seems that the info you provide will not be in an accurate way? Hmm...you lost me. Nevertheless, welcome and I hope that what ever you feel like sharing will be beneficial to the project.
