Well, I suppose I should clarify on the bad guy voice. A lot of bad guys voices sound alike (of course), but some of them are just to over the top 'bad'. You can tell when they're trying to hard. 'Gothmog' in LotR is a decent example, although his voice wasn't all bad.

There are many stereotypical bad guy voices. Depends on the bad guy... Morgoth will be difficult; so deceitful and yet so blunt, oozing power. Sauron I imagine as a "Wormtongue"-like voice. Celegorm and Curufin, or Celegorm at least, should have flawless posh British accents. If I ever get a mike, (big if) I'd like to try for these... Morgoth I always imagined as not having an 'evil' voice, but more of a mysterious, kinda like a 'Dorian Grey' with brains. If you catch my thought. If you're into music, maybe something like Morrissey (Ahhh! Pope of Mope! ). And, if you're curious, I can sing along to Morrissey, very well (I only know this because someone heard me out in public and was asking if I was related to him... wierd...) Anyways, Just wanted to share. As for the microphone, I've might have one, though it is just a cellphone one you use in a car... ~ka

Morgoth, especially as Melkor, should, I think, actually sound a lot like Manwe. They are very similar, except Manwe serves Good, and Melkor Evil. That's why I've put myself down to voice both of them. Take one base voice, add a bit of angelic dignity to one, a bit of slyness to the other...

Ha! Perfect mixture to make a Morrissey...
By the way, i'm curious... Are there any parts left? Especially that of Lorien? I don't know where to look for the list.

Well, /all/ the parts are left, no one's auditioned yet. Wander down to the volunteers thread and put your name down for whatever you want... I'll stick the current cast list into the Cast Lists thread for you, shall I?

Oh yes! Thank you for the consideration. Now, just to locate a good microphone!

I realized that I could do a recording (up to a minute long) on a cell phone & then email it to our gmail address...I'm not sure how well that'd turn out, though. I might give an orc voice a go or something just to see how it works...plus if the cell service charges like $2 per recording emailed I don't see that as a long term solution.

You should probably have several set speeches that each person who wishes to audition for a specific character should choose from.
I have been through numerous auditions coming from a theater background this is how audition usually run.
But since this is a fairly large project that may not work as well as it should.
Do you have anything specific that you would like us to read or use as audition pieces or should we choose something that we feel is appropriate?

Well.....um, currently there isn't anyone to audition for. No one is heading that up unless Chronicler comes back or maybe hS will step into that role, but he's pretty adamant about sticking to the writing end of things, so.......I dunno, I mean, I'm not a staff member, but it only seems logical to me with all of your experience perhaps you should get this ball rolling....but as of right now I think the only ones volunteering for roles would be yourself and hS, if "G" is interested I am unaware, Derleu came up with a list of actors, but I don't know if he was interested in voice acting.....like I said if you know anyone who would be interested use your best pesuasive techniques and bring them onboard.

Derleu came up with a list of actors, but I don't know if he was interested in voice acting..... Not really, unless you need someone with a not so slight German accent ;-)

I think that I will take it upon myself to get a hold of some voice actors for you. I have a lot of theatrical friends who would most likely be interested in this. I think the key would be to find actors/voice actors who also love the book. That way they would be more likely to stick with this project. I will see what I can come up with and keep everyone posted. Though I may just keep some of the juicier roles for myself... I have always loved the character of Feanor and his sons

That would be so totally awesome. Yeah, I agree, if they love the book and have the same enthusiasm as we do to see it come to life they would be more likely to stay and work through the kinks. I think other than jostling for roles with hS you've pretty much got it sewn up. You can take which ever roles you want and dole the rest out to your acting crew you will be rounding up. You can pretty much at this point just tell them what's available and keep the ones you want for yourself. That is why I was encouraging you on the other thread to check out the existing scripts so you can see how we've been developing the characters, especially the house of Feanor, since he seems to be near and dear to your heart. Please tell us if you have any ideas on how we can make it better, make our characters stronger, in both scripts for the first movie, at least. We aren't working on Maeglin's script just yet.
Oh, this is so much fun. I'm so glad you joined us. Please do keep us posted on your progress with gaining acting support for the project.
And for the record, we all wish you the very best in your acting career.

So guys I know that it seems I have been gone for a while and I have but it was for a good reason. I've been getting some acting gigs to keep myself eating.
But I assure you that I have been working on this little project that is so near and dear to all of our hearts.
I even have one other crazy Tolkien fan who would be willing to put a voice to some of the characters for us. I met her on a tv show shoot and she's just as obsessed as I am and that's saying a lot. I will be giving her the website info and we'll see what we can come up with.

Hey, Lennaire- I've been a silent partner for a long while and unfortunately this is going to have to be the norm for me for right now. I'm just don't have the time to devote to this right now, but I am checking in and keeping up to speed on what's going on and who is at what stage so that when I am able to jump back in I can do so with some semblance of ease. Anyway, I just wanted to say that is so totally awesome about your friend. I hope she joins us. I know you really have some great web links for us and some really great ideas. I think there is probably enough script available to do some kind of like preview thing or something. I don't know maybe just a couple of scenes or something, just so we can get a feel for how it is going to look and sound. It may like totally change our preceptions, you know how we are writing this and the dialogue- who knows- it just that writers see things in their minds eye and we don't know really how these scenes are going to play out. We may be able to actually get by with saying less and showing more, or we may need to say things differently or add more detail in some area that we are overlooking. We most definitely can benefit from you skill as an actor, because you can guide us as to whether you can get into the character with dialogue as it is or what changes need to be made to smooth it out. I am so anxious to see and hear this. Thank you so much for being a part of our little group and sharing you talents with us.

You are very welcome and I am glad that I can add something to a project such as this.
I have been hoping that someone would do a film version of The Silmarillion for a long time now and I can't wait to see what we can come up with.
I am still trying to get a hold of some interested actors and actresses who would be willing to donate some time to this endeavor.
I'l keep everyone posted.
