I'm back!
And currently working on editing our three finished scripts - FotN(H), FotN(G) and LL - into a consistant script format for uploading to Google Docs. Along the way, I'll be making noted about the state of editing in each of them - and anything I notice that needs changing.
The Fall of the Noldor (H)
My script. It's been comprehensively edited (by Maeglin and Tamitha) up to Scene 10; after that is just the in-process editing, which was mostly to catch canon errors and really bad writing.
One of the major changes in the early scenes is the characterisation of the Valar - they were originally rather 'down-to-earth', but have become more like, well, demigods. This has not yet been carried through - and it needs to be.
Additionally, Finarfin has suffered a lot from being the foil for Nicer-Than-Nice Fingolfin. He doesn't read like the father of Finrod, or like the only Prince of the Noldor who turned back... and, again, he should be.
The Fall of the Noldor (H)
The Fall of the Noldor (G)
A total rewrite by Glorfindel covering the same ground. The first few scenes have been extensively edited by Tamitha and others, and everything up to scene 28 (the Oath) has been reedited by Glorfindel. From thereon it's just in-process editing.
The editing process on the G script hasn't left nearly as much of a divide as in H - possibly because most of the editing was by the author. It can stand as a completed script - although naturally any further editing can only be a good thing.
The Fall of the Noldor (G) (as it stood when the Project rebooted)
The FotN (G) Editing Thread
The Lay of Luthien
Written by Maeglin, with in-process editing but very little once it was completed - the Prologue and Scene 1 received rewrites by me.
I like the way this script introduces characters and events which could have happened - for instance, Galadriel in the initial Doriath sections. I think if it needs anything by way of major editing, it needs more of this. Galadriel doesn't show up in later Doriath, and Nargothrond is entirely without Finduilas and - if my suggestion is accepted - Gil-Galad, children of Orodreth.
The Lay of Luthien
And the uncompleted scripts...
The Fall of Gondolin
We've been lucky enough to have Kikefrike show up (silmfilm.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=words&action=display&thread=100) with a completed Spanish script of the Fall of Gondolin. Fortunately, Google Translate has come a long way since 2008. I've glanced over it, and it looks like this script is very close to the book (specifically the Book of Lost Tales), and well-written besides. I've begun a translation (basically by reading the Google Translate version and rendering it into good English without changing the sense), but have no objection to other people doing the next scenes in the same way.
The Fall of Gondolin
The War of Wrath
This script is still ongoing; I do intend to finish it, despite the current hiatus.
The War of Wrath
Other Scripts
Well, we don't have a Turin script... I personally don't think we need one, and I won't be particularly involved in writing one, but if someone wants to give it a stab, go for it.
Can an eight-year-old project come back from the very-nearly-dead? Let's find out!
