Scene: 26 - Melkor at Formenos
DISSOLVE: EXT: Courtyard of Formenos MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Maglor and Maedhros talk as they walk towards the entrance of Formenos.
Maglor: (to Maedhros) There is not much of an audience here for me to play for.
Maedhros: (to Maglor, happily) When did you ever need an audience to play? I always liked the one about Mindon and the one about the Calacirya.
Maglor: (to Maglor, reflective) Ah yes, "The White Tower" and "Pass of Light" are nice. I guess I could play for you later, maybe a new song.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT CONT'D: Maedhros stops and wheels around quickly with his hand grabbing the hilt of his sword. CUT TO: CLOSE UP: He stares out into the distance
Maedhros: (to Maglor, low) That is odd, very odd. I felt as if someone was watching...
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Maedhros and Maglor
Maglor: What could it be Maedhros?
TWO SHOT CONT'D: He relaxes and slap/hugs Maglor
Maedhros: (to Maglor, smiles) I guess it is nothing, but let us go inside before you end up making a song called "Maedhros the Mad".
TWO SHOT CONT'D: They knock and the huge doors open. They enter in and the doors shut with a thud.
ZOOM OUT SLOW: A few seconds after, there is a knock on the doors but no visible "knocker". One door opens and it is Fëanor who opens it. His eyes widen as Melkor materializes.
Melkor: (to Fëanor) Greetings to thee, Fëanor Curufinwë, Prince of the Noldor; are thou not blessed this day?
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: PAN UP: Melkor, tall and powerful looking.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor steps back from him cautiously.
Melkor: (to Fëanor) How are thee and thy house?
Fëanor: (to Melkor) Melkor...you have returned to Aman?
Melkor: (to Fëanor) Returned? I left not dear Noldor. I have been observing as was my wont. Chiefly, I have been watching thee languish in this land. I come to visit a fellow sufferer that has been wronged by those who say that they love him.
Fëanor: (to Melkor, sarcastically) And so you have come to tell me that you love me more then they? (pause) Why be concerned for me? Should not your concern be for yourself? The Valar would like to have you in their custody again.
Melkor: (to Fëanor) Of course they would, but why? They have voiced their reasons, but there are still things they do not reveal. I have come with an offer of freedom.
Fëanor: (to Fëanor) What things, and an offer of freedom, what do you mean?
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Melkor
Melkor: (to Fëanor) Wise Fëanor, thou are the greatest of all the Eldar in Aman, yet treated now as if thou were of little value. I too have suffered from the jealousy of others. I sought to keep the fair lands of Middle-earth free for the husbandry of the Eldar. With a gentle hand, I wished to have governed from a great distance in the North, but the other Valar would not suffer me to do so. They made war against me and brought thee here to be on a leash, close to their bosom.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Fëanor and Melkor
Fëanor: (to Melkor) But it is said that you fought against the Valar and marred or killed many of the elves there.
Melkor: (to Fëanor) Stories to propagate false ideas to those they wish to rule. For the truth be known, they desired Middle-earth that was promised to the elves. Long ago I drove them out to this narrow land to keep Middle-earth safe for thy peoples coming. When they realized that the Eldar had awoken at Cuivienen, they sent the hunter, Oromë, to secretly terrorize them and trick them into coming to Aman. They wanted the Eldar near so that they could better control them. Middle-earth was left for the second comers.
Fëanor: (to Melkor) Second comers...I have had heard whispered rumors of such.
Melkor: (to Fëanor) They are a weak people. Although they resemble the Eldar in the basest form, they are slow of mind and fragile. They will be more easily controlled and manipulated by the Valar. Usurpers of the inheritance that Iluvatar wished the Eldar...wished thee to have Prince Fëanor. They are called men, and could easily be overcome and ruled by thy hand.
Fëanor: (to Melkor) I wish not to rule them, but I have desired for a long time to leave this place and visit Cuivienen where my people awoke. I would like to roam free...
CUT TO: MED SHOT: Fëanor stands backed away from the doorway. He looks down, deep in thought with his arms folded.
Melkor: (to Fëanor) Brave Fëanor, I can assist thee greatly in escaping from this narrow land to one that was intended for thee. Am I not still Vala? Yes; the greatest above all those who sit prideful in Valimar. Do not fool thyself that thou will ever again feel at home in Tirion.
Fëanor: (to Melkor) I have pondered my return...how I will be received.
Melkor: I believe that thou have always known that this would never be thy true home; fair as the Valar have tried to make it seem. Thou are here for their benefit. If it is their liking and desire, they will put forth irresistible requests for the mightiest of thy works. Formenos is a strong place, but not strong enough to bar the Valar from taking the Silmarils for their keeping.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor looks up suddenly and his eyes flash and narrow. He looks hard at Melkor.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor's P.O.V.: Melkor fades to a grotesque, twisted, image of himself. A faint whispering heard.
Melkor: V.O. (faint whisper) I want them, I will have the Silmarils. They will be mine!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor and Melkor
Fëanor: (to Melkor, loud with anger) Your lust betrays you! How dare you come to my door with hidden desires for what is mine! Get you gone, jail crow of Mandos!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor slams the door shut and the sound echoes.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Melkor is silent. He breathes deeply several times while frowning, and then he fades and floats away.

Scene: 27 - Melkor Flees
FADE IN: EXT: Plains of Valinor LONG SHOT: Three elves in the distance run fast across wide fields approaching the gates of Valmar.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Aulë, Yavanna, and Nienna at the gates.
Yavanna: (to Aulë and Nienna) Is not that Finwë's folk who are speeding this way?
Aulë: (to Yavanna) Yea, they are Fëanor's sons to be more precise.
Nienna: (to Aulë and Yavanna) Why do they hurry so? I feel ill at ease now.
Aulë: [to himself, very low] Well, that would not be a stretch for thee.
Yavanna: (to Aule, low and firm) Aulë, please do not start.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Caranthir, Curufin and Celegrom come up the path to the gate and stop to greet the Valar
Celegrom: (to the Valar) Lord Aulë, Lady Yavanna and Lady Nienna, bless you all.
Caranthir: (to the Valar) Important tidings come from Formenos. Melkor has been seen.
Nienna: (to all) Important tidings...ill tidings would be more appropriate.
Aulë: (to elves, shocked) Melkor at Formenos, how surprising! What did he want?
Curufin: (to Aulë) He came and spoke to father a few days ago. Father became upset and shut the door in his face. King Finwë is concerned and sent us to report all to Manwë.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: The Three Valar
Aulë: (to himself, to all) My, my, how surprising indeed my Noldor! The door shut in Melkor's face; I wish I was there to see the look he...
Yavanna: (to Aulë, interrupting) Aulë, this must be reported to Manwë quickly.
Nienna: (to Yavanna and Aule) Yea, let us be off.
Aulë: (to Yavanna, to the elves) Yea, of course; my Noldor, go to Oromë's Mansion. He is yet on Taniquetil but ye ask of the Maia for horses and ride forth to Manwë. I will go speak with Finwë and Fëanor.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: The Valar and the elves depart DISSOLVE: LONG SHOT: The elves riding up the holy mountain as the Vanyar elves look on. Montage: Sounds, music and no dialog, the riders are seen speaking to Manwë and Varda with Oromë and Tulkas near. Then Nahar's hoofs and flames are seen as the host of Oromë speed down the mountain to the plains. Tulkas talks to elves in Tirion and then runs swiftly away. Then all are back at Taniquetil. Report from Tulkas and Oromë.
Tulkas: (to Manwë) In Tirion, they saw a thunder cloud pass by the hill of Tuna heading for the coast.
Oromë: (to Manwë) I rode to Alqualonde and it seems that he turned northward, but there was no sign of him for many leagues.
Manwë: (to all) He has more likely ventured to the north and hopes to cross over to his former strong hold in northern Middle-earth.
Tulkas: (to all) If this is true, then good riddance to that scoundrel!
Oromë: (to all) We can only hope that he has a difficult time there and is unable to cause too much mischief.
Varda: (to Manwë) These tidings must go to the Ring of Doom for all to hear.
Manwë: (to Varda) Yes my queen, there is much to discuss and deliberate on.

Scene: 28 - Melkor and Ungoliant
FADE IN: EXT: Rocky hills and ditches with dark mountains in the distance. There is an eerie dimness, gloomy dark sunset like light all around LONG SHOT: Melkor makes his way across the land
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: He finds a deep ravine, slows down, and then stops. He looks around in the ravine very carefully as if sensing something there. ZOOM IN SLOW: He focuses on a black shape in a crevice.
Melkor: (to the shape) Thou were almost successful in eluding me, but many have failed trying to do so.
MED SHOT CONT'D: There is some movement but no reply.
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) There is no further need for silence. I know of thee, Ungoliant.
MED SHOT CONT'D: Ungoliant is in the shadows with a few of her spider like legs shown in the dim light, along with her eyes shining in the dark.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor) And I know of thee Melkor. The tidings of thy defeat and captivity have been made known to me. But why does the former Lord of Utumno come to Avathar, this forgotten land?
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) Thou have had some news, yet the latest I bring to thee. Yea, the Valar dealt me defeat and aggravated it with the shame of captivity. I gained my release and served in the guise of the repentant so that they would not suspect my plot of vengeance.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor, sarcastically) Thou have journeyed these long leagues just to bring me fresh news? How sweet thou are.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Melkor rises tall, dark, and powerful looking and speaks with a deeper voice.
Melkor: (to Ungoliant, loud, deep) Know that my plans for revenge will be realized and all that aid me will be greatly rewarded.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor) Rewarded thou say? What of thy plans Lord Melkor?
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) Lies that I have told through the years have now born fruit of envy and strife. Manwë hopes to end division, but his attempt to reconcile the estranged will be his undoing.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor) Yea, but how will thou strike against a host so mighty?
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) Manwë will soon call for a festival, as is his practice at the gathering of the first fruits. Observing this occasion over the years, I know that the cities and lands will be emptied during the celebration. Then the opportunity to shake them to their very core will be present. Will not thou assist me in such a gloriously dark task?
Ungoliant: (to Melkor) Thou risk too much Melkor. Thy plans have felled before. Why should I endanger my solitude here where I gather the accursed light of Aman for my hunger?
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) (Pause) Thou may be correct; thou have thy webs to gather light that you love and hate. Why risk your meager existence here? Thou surely would not be interested in feasting until your hunger wanes, and then striking with malice those things that produced such bliss and horror.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Ungoliant comes halfway out of the shadows
Ungoliant: (to Melkor, excited) Oh, yea, yea, I would, but that is not enough! The Valar are strong; they who brought even thee into captivity!
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Melkor moves closer to Ungoliant
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) So, will thy greed for more help you overcome thy fear Ungoliant? Then there is more, much more for thy belly to feast on. In the northern regions of Valinor is a stronghold, wherein a treasury exists, which has unsurpassed jewels and containers of light. Even those I will hand over to thee.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor) Yea, with both hands Lord Melkor?
Melkor: (to Ungoliant, smiles grimly) Indeed, Ungoliant, with both hands.

Scene: 29 - Aulë at Formenos
FADE IN: INT: Vast Dwelling of Formenos. Well designed but sparsely decorated. MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Aulë walks with Finwë down a hall
Finwë: (to Aulë) I am sure that he might come if kindly asked Lord Aulë.
Aulë: (to Finwë) But a command, not an invitation, does Manwë give.
Finwë: (to Aulë) This will not sit well with him.
Aulë: (to Finwë) The deeds of his pride have brought this forth Finwë. He must be there. Can you guarantee his presence?
Finwë: (to Aulë) At this point in time...I cannot say.
MED. SHOT: Aulë and Finwë enter into a large room with many work tables and benches. Curufin, the twins and some other elves are working on jewels or other creations. They all look up when Aulë and Finwë enter.
Aulë: (to all) Greetings my Noldor friends, glad to see so many busy with crafting.
All workshop elves: (almost in unison) Greetings Lord Aulë
Finwë: (to Curufin) Curufin, where is your father?
Curufin: (to Finwë) He is in the treasury.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Curufin looks behind him to a stone wall with a big thick metal door. Finwë goes to the back and opens the door. A bright light comes out suddenly.
Fëanor: O.S.V. (to Finwë) Father, I will only be a moment. I was doing a little reorganizing; separating the jeweled inlaid spears from the jewel studded staffs. With the Silmarils displayed, I never have to keep the door open for light or use my lamps.
MED SHOT: Fëanor makes his way into view from deep in the vault that is twice the size of the large workroom. The Silmarils are in an open crystal case.
Finwë: (to Fëanor) We must discuss this year's festival of first fruits.
Fëanor: (to Finwë, laughs) Why would I bother with that? I have no desire to go.
Aulë: O.S.V. (to Fëanor) But your desire has little to do with it now Fëanor.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor with a grim suspicious look ANGLE ON: He puts the silmarils inside a thick iron casket and locks it. BACK TO SCENE: MED. SHOT: He then comes out of the treasury and closes the heavy metal door and locks it.
Finwë: (to Fëanor) Lord Aulë has said that you are to be at the festival.
MED SHOT CONT'D: Some elves in the room look on curiously
Fëanor: (to Finwë and Aulë) Let us go outside.
CUT TO: EXT. Fëanor walks between Aulë and Finwë outside near the Formenos entrance
Aulë: (to Fëanor) Manwë seeks to heal the hurt and division that has grown in years past. The Valar require thy presence.
Fëanor: (to Aulë) Will this lessen my time away from Tirion?
Aulë: (to Fëanor) Nay, but it will better thy return when that day comes.
Fëanor: (to himself, to all, lowly) They treat the maker of seeing stones and Silmarils strangely.
Aulë: (to Fëanor) Be humble and compliant Fëanor. Too much pride and impatience is bad for anyone, even those with good intentions.
CUT TO: FLASH BACK: - Aulë reminisces in his own mind. Aulë is crafting small, stocky, humanoid figures from stones. He then stands them up, finished polished and clothed. He looks intensely at a few and mumbles, moving his hands. The figures sound back and move in sync with his hands. Then there is a loud rumbling and the room is lit with a very bright light
Aulë: O.S.V (to Fëanor) Iluvatar shows us the error of our ways for our benefit, no matter who we are and what great achievements we have done or hope to do.
FLASH BACK CONT'D: Iluvatar: O.S.V. (to Aulë) Why have thou done this, a thing that thou knowest is beyond thy power and authority to do? Thou have only thine own being from me and these creatures of thy mind can only live by that being and not independently. Cease thy thought on them and they will cease moving. Is this what thou desired?
FLASH BACK CONT'D: Aulë: (to Iluvatar) No, I did not desire this; I just wanted things other that myself to teach and love. With impatience for the coming of thy children I did this; not in mockery but because thou have placed skill, imagination, and creativity in my heart. I wish to help populate Arda, for much room is there and yet none occupy and enjoy it. In my impudence I have now fallen into folly. What shall I do so thou will not be anger with me forever? (pause) As a child to his father, I offer thee the work of the hands that thou have made.
FLASH BACK CONT'D: He grabs a hammer: Aulë: (to Iluvatar) Do with them what thy wilt. (pause) But should I not destroy the work of my presumption?
FLASH BACK CONT'D: He cries as he raises the hammer and the dwarves finch and cry out.
FLASH BACK CONT'D: Iluvatar: O.S.V. (to Aulë) Stay thy hand, for I accepted thine offer even as you spoke it. Because of thy humility and love, I now imparted onto these that thou made their own independent life, but no further shall I amend thy work. I also will not suffer them to be alive on Middle-earth before my children and know that strife may arise between those I birthed and those I have adopted. Let them sleep in the earth, under stone and mountain for now. FLASHBACK END:
CUT TO: EXT: Small hill down a path from Formenos MED. SHOT: Aulë, Fëanor, Finwë. Aulë is still in deep thought about the past.
Finwë: (to Aulë) Lord Aulë, you were saying?
Aulë: (to Fëanor, scratching his head) Oh, there is an order...to all things Fëanor, as thou well know. Thy sentence draws near the halfway mark. Do not jeopardize thy standings now. I have come to tell thee of the command as friend of the Noldor, less Manwë send Eonwë with other Maiar to escort thee. Please be there at the appointed time.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor stands away from Aulë and Finwë with arms folded and frowning.
Fëanor: (to both) It will be so.

Scene: 30 - The Death of the Trees
FADE IN: EXT: Mountains of the south range in Aman. LONG SHOT: PAN ACROSS: Mountains ZOOM IN SLOW: Two shadows can finally be seen. First is a very dark blurred area, as if light and color were pinched at a point. The second has a smoky haze surrounding it. Web like ropes come out from the first shadow and spiral up to cling on the cliffs above. Ungoliant: (to Melkor) We are almost at the summit.
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) Thy pace is too swift for me.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor) Thou wish to strike against the Valar. I wish to do so and come away from it intact! It was thou that said haste was needed before and after to succeed.
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) Yea, and from the top of Hyarmentir, we will see all the land. Then we will make sure all will go well.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Ungoliant and Melkor can be seen through their shadowy camouflage. Ungoliant moves quickly to the summit of the mountain and then lowers web for Melkor to climb up on. His pace quickens and he makes it to the top. They look down at the empty lands below as Melkor laughs.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor) Now my hunger is much greater than when we first set out.
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) Just a while longer and thy desires will be satisfied.
DISSOLVE: EXT: Manwë's mansion on Taniquetil.
MED. SHOT: PAN ACROSS: Vanyar singing and some dancing. Noldor are showing off jewelry and clothing. Fingolfin and others eat and drink. Manwë, Varda and many other Valar are sitting and enjoying.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Manwë and Varda
Varda: (to Manwë) Lovely is this day my king. Joy is everywhere and many more Eldar attend this year's festival than every before.
Manwë: (to Varda) Yea Varda, I am pleased. It seems all but the Teleri on the shores have come.
TWO SHOT CONT'D: Manwë and Varda smile and look out at the festivities. PAN ACROSS: to the pathway and entrance. Slowly an elf walks into the celebration area but remains on the outer perimeter, almost hidden in gray plain clothes.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Mandos approaches Manwë with Eonwë by his side.
Mandos: (to Manwë) He is here King Manwë.
Manwë: (to Mandos, to Eonwë) Very good; Eonwë, please have Fëanor come forth to me.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Celebrators start to notice that it is Fëanor in the gray clothes. They whisper among themselves about his lack of any festive clothes. Eonwë approaches him.
Eonwë: (to Fëanor) Manwë wants to see you now.
CUT TO: EXT: Fields and plains of Valinor. Two large and dark figures are crossing over the empty land. They are shown headed in the direction of Valmar and the two trees.
CUT TO: INT: Manwë's mansion. LONG SHOT: Singing and music dies down as the elves make way for Fëanor to come to the high seat of Manwë.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fingolfin follows Fëanor from a few steps behind and then both stop and stand a short distance from Manwë.
Manwë: (to Fëanor) Fëanor, son of Finwë, greetings to thee...and to thee also Fingolfin, who rules in Finwë's stead; I pray that ye both are well.
Fingolfin: (to Manwë, bows) Yes Lord Manwë, greetings to you from the Noldor of Tirion.
DISSOLVE: EXT: The two trees on the hill of Ezellohar MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Slowly and menacingly, darkness creeps up the side of the hill to the base of the trees.
CUT TO: INT: Manwë's Mansion MED SHOT: Manwë, Varda, Fingolfin and Fëanor
Manwë: (to Fingolfin) Bless thee Fingolfin, but I had hoped Finwë would come and that he would take up his Kingship again, though thou have done very well in his absence.
Fingolfin: (to Manwë) Finwë chooses to remain at Formenos and considers himself "unkinged" until this matter has concluded.
Varda: (to Fëanor, concerned) What say thou Fëanor; now that thy term in exile nears half done? And thou come not in festive apparel, wear not any jewel, nor bring us the blessing of the Silmarils' light?
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor is silent
Fingolfin: (to Manwë and Varda) Fëanor's heart is ever with our father. His appearance reflects the diminished splendor of our spirits because of the absence of Finwë.
Manwë: (Fëanor) Thy sentence completion is not as far off as it seems Fëanor. Soon you will be release to house and forge in Tirion, but before that event, I hope that healing will have started in the hearts of all concerned.
Fingolfin: (to Manwë, turns to Fëanor) And it is so Lord Manwë. As I said a time ago, I do now. (to Fëanor) I release you from any further grievance.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Fingolfin extends his hand and Fëanor takes it.
Fingolfin: (to Fëanor) Half brother in blood, but full brother in heart will I be. You will lead and I will follow. Let no new grievance divide us.
Fëanor: (to Fingolfin) I hear you, so be it.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: The mingling of the light of the trees can be seen as the two brothers shake hands. The elves cheer, sing, and music start.
CUT TO: EXT: The two trees MED. SHOT: Black Ungoliant hiding behind Melkor.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor, upset) So bright, too bright, accurse things of the Valar!
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) See now my brother Manwë Sulimo, finally, recompense.
MED SHOT CONT'D: Melkor takes a long thick black spear that has been strapped to his back, and thrust it into Telperion. The tree leaves shake and the bark cracks. He does the same to Laurelin. The trees sway and their light dims and brightens over and over as sap oozes from their wounds. Ungoliant comes quick and starts to suck it up.
CUT TO: INT: Manwë's mansion. MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Yavanna and Nienna come to Manwë and those gathered around him.
Nienna: (to Manwë, starts to cry) Something is wrong dear Elder King.
Yavanna: (to Manwë, very concerned) King Manwë, I too feel a burden suddenly upon my heart.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: It grows darker. The elves are silent and look confused.
CUT TO: EXT: The two trees CLOSE UP: Ungoliant is sucking the sap of Laurelin ZOOM OUT SLOW: Telperion is already dark and black; Ungoliant finishes Laurelin CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Ungoliant goes to the shining pools near by, belching black ink like vapors as she moves. It is like dusk in the land with it getting darker as Ungoliant drinks up the pools and belches black vapors.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Melkor nervously watching her grow larger as she drinks. When she finishes, she is huge and hideous.

CUT TO: EXTRA LONG SHOT: Valinor as seen from Taniquetil. It is dim and growing darker with the stars shining overhead. A dark liquid blackness is slowly flowing over the land. Manwë tries to see where it is coming from and spots a darker point moving away fast.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Manwë Manwë: (to himself, very grim) Melkor.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Oromë mounting Nahar and bright flames leap from his hoofs as Oromë leads his host down the mountain. Tulkas runs fast and passes Oromë going headlong into the evil darkness.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Tulkas searches for Melkor in the darkness
Tulkas: (to himself, loud) What evil tricks thou have will not save thee Melkor. I will yet lay hands on thee again!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: The darkness seems to become semi-solid and attacks Tulkas. He is buffeted around slightly as he runs. He slows down and swings in the air at the blackness.
Tulkas: (loud, angrily) Melkor! Melkor!
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: Oromë and his host closing in on the "extra" darkness.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Oromë slows down. The "extra" dark surrounds him and his host. He tries to sound the Valaroma (horn) but the sound is muffled and muted. His host started to scatter into the darkness confused. He tries the Valaroma again but only the sound of air comes out with no note. Slowly the "extra" dark starts to fade and seem to move away. A soft breeze can be heard and seen. Oromë's host gathers back to him and then Tulkas comes up slowly.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Oromë on Nahar and Tulkas
Tulkas: (to Oromë, frustrated) It is no use. I have lost all bearings on his direction.

Scene: 31 - Sorrow and Woe
FADE IN: EXT: Manwë's mansion MED. SHOT: Star filled sky PAN DOWN SLOW: to Manwë and the other Valar receiving report from Oromë and Tulkas.
Oromë: (to all) And by the time it subsided so that we could reset our pursuit, he had gone.
Nienna: (to all, with tears) From bliss to woe completely we have come. The trees are now darkened.
Varda: (to Manwë) We should make way to Ezellohar, to the trees.
Manwë: (to all) We will gather to the green mound; let everyone govern their grief until full assessment is wrought.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: A huge precession makes its way down from the Taniquetil; only the brilliance of the Ainur shines dimly. DISSOLVE: MED. SHOT: They all arrive at the green mound, now muddied and heavily trodden. Yavanna and Nienna approach the trees. Yavanna reaches to touch a branch. ANGLE ON: Yavanna's hand and the branch breaking and crumbling in her hands. BACK TO SCENE:
Yavanna: (to all, sad) The light of the trees has pasted away, and lives now only in the Silmarils of Fëanor. Foresighted was he. Even the mightiest under Iluvatar can accomplish some work only once. I brought the light of the trees into being, but I can never do so again. If I have just a little of that light, I could recall life to them before their roots decay; healing our hurts and confounding Melkor's malice.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor standing in front of the Valar Manwë: (looking at Fëanor) Hear thou Fëanor, the words of Yavanna? Will thou grant what she would ask?
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Silence ensues for a few seconds as the wind blows.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: The face of Fëanor
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Faces of Valar PAN ACROSS: the faces of the Valar who all, but Aulë, stare at Fëanor. PAN STOP: on Tulkas
Tulkas: (to Fëanor, upset) Speak, o Noldo, Yea or Nay! But who shall deny Yavanna?! Did not the light of the Silmarils come from her work in the beginning?!
Aulë: (to Tulkas, compassion) Be not hasty; we ask a greater thing than thou know. Let him have peace yet for a while.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor
Fëanor: (to all, frustrated) For the less even as for the greater, there are some deed that he may accomplish but once only. And in that deed his heart shall rest. It may be that I can unlock my jewels, but never again shall I make their like. And if I must break them, then I will break my heart, and be slain, first so of all the Eldar in Aman.
Mandos: O.S.V. (low and solemn) Not the first.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Manwë and Varda quickly look around at Mandos with very concerned looks. Mandos stares back in silence. It is quiet with only the creaking sound of the dead trees being blown gently by the wind.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor with arms crossed and head down. He thinks to himself and the thoughts can be heard by the audience only.
AUIDO F/X: Fëanor: (INTER-THOUGHT) O.S.V. - Melkor: "You are here for their benefit. If it is their liking and desire, they will put forth irresistible requests for the mightiest of your works. Am I not still Valar? Yes..."
V.O. - Fëanor: Yes...and thief shall reveal thieves.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor looks up suddenly, throwing his arms to his sides.
Fëanor: (to all, loud and angry) This thing I will not do of free will, but if the Valar will constrain me, then shall I know indeed, that Melkor is of their kindred.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Mandos as Vairë walks up and stands besides him Mandos: [loud and low] Thou have spoken.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Nienna moves to the trees as she cries. She cast back her grey hood and knells near the trees roots. Her tears drip on the roots of the trees and start to wash the blackness away. ZOOM OUT SLOW: She sings softly as she weeps. Then there are loud commotions in the background of the elven crowd as three elves make their way to the base of the mound.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Maedhros is in front followed by Amrod and Amras. They try to make way to Manwë but are stopped by some Maiar. Nienna stops singing
Maedhros: [to the Maiar] I must speak to King Manwë! I have...ill...ill tidings from Formenos.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: MOVING SHOT: Fëanor, surprised, tries to make his way to them. Maiar look at Manwë who holds his hand up and signals for them to let the group through.
Fëanor: (to Maedhros, concern) What of Formenos Maedhros? Where are the others?
Manwë: (to Maedhros) Please tell us in full, what tidings thou bring us at this dark hour.
Maedhros: (to all, sad) Evil news I bring my lord, evil deeds done while darkness prevailed over the land. The light of the trees...
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Maedhros looks to the trees and is further saddened and dismayed by the sight.
Maedhros: (to all, sad and dismayed) ...faded, dimmed, how could that be...but yet we witnessed it from the hillside near Formenos. Then, even as the light of the trees seemed to fail, "darkness" was spied coming towards us from afar. It was darkness, large and of its own independent will. From this issued forth...more darkness. We all sensed a great power in the midst of it and then discovered Melkor coming along side of this thing. He soon approached the doors of Formenos and we all fled...all but...King Finwë. (Eyes tear up but do not cry)
Fëanor: (to Maedhros, excited and upset) What of my father, King Finwë? What of his fate?!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Now Fingolfin, and his children come close to the speakers. Finarfin comes holding his mother with her head lying on his shoulder crying quietly.
Maedhros: (to Feanor, very sad) He stood firm and tall before the entrance to the hall. His face showed bright even amidst the darkness. Melkor demanded that you come forth. Maglor, Celegrom, and I resolved to go back from our sheltered place behind the rocks but as we readied ourselves, we saw that King Finwë had refused to answer Melkor questions, and so Melkor struck him down with his black spear. Melkor then broke wide the doors of Formenos and entered in. The darkness, which seemed alive, put forth more thick darkness, and confused our direction. When it had passed enough to see...Melkor and "it", had left.
Manwë: (to all) More burdens to bear that this evil has put upon us. Has the bottom of this bitter cup been yet reached?
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Maedhros and Fëanor
Maedhros: (turns and hugs Fëanor) Father, Maglor and the others gather around Finwë though his spirit is in the Halls of Waiting. They also stand guard over what little remains in the treasury. Father, the jewels of Formenos, all of them, all...are gone.
TWO SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor seems to go limp in Maedhros's arms with a shocked, wide-eyed look on his face. Then he stiffens himself and blinks very quickly.
Fëanor: (to Maedhros, confused and upset) Do you speak of the Silmarils Maedhros...of the Silmarils fate Maedhros, not them too?
Maedhros: (sad and now crying) Yes father, the Silmarils have been stolen by Melkor. They are lost to us now. CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor's Face. Fëanor's eyes narrow and spark as if flame were inside them. He trembles suddenly and breaks from the embrace.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor turns to the Valar and looks at Manwë
Fëanor: (to all, shaking, furious and loud) Curse Melkor! Curse his name! Evil is that name and I shall never have it on my tongue again. Black and dark are his heart and soul. Morgoth, the Black Foe of the world are you and ever shall be! Curse this unholy day and all that encompasses it! Evil was the summons to the feast and the celebration that brought me away from Formenos. Would I have been there to contest Morgoth; I would have struck a blow mightily upon him. Unholy and depraved were all the designs that allow Morgoth to ravage my works, and kill my father!!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Then Fëanor swiftly runs through an opening in the crowd into the outer darkness and disappears. Everyone has a sad face, is tearing up or crying out loud.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Aulë is holding Yavanna's hand. Yavanna looks at the trees and tears up. She moves from Aulë, back to them, and knells near their base

Scene: 32 - Black Foes in Middle Earth
DISSOLVE: LONG SHOT: Helcaraxe (icy wasteland), muted starlight. Shadowy dark Ungoliant and Melkor make their way across. ZOOM IN SLOW: MOVING SHOT: Ungoliant and Melkor traverse the iced lands very fast. Finally the ice ends as they reach the upper northwest part of Middle Earth. Hills start and then quicken to small mountains. Melkor slows down. Ungoliant does the same. He hesitates and then speeds up and she also does so with her eyes fixed on him.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Ungoliant and Melkor traveling
Ungoliant: (to Melkor) Black heart, I have done thy bidding but I hunger still.
MED SHOT CONT'D: Melkor looks around as if trying to find an escape route away from Ungoliant.
Melkor: (to Ungoliant) What would thou have more? Do thy desire the whole world for thy belly? I did not promise thee that for I am its lord.
Ungoliant: (to Melkor, loud) Not so much, but thou has a great treasure from Formenos. I will have all that. With both hands thou shall give it!
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: mountains and valley at twilight. Both slow and then stop.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: Melkor pulls out jewels from compartments in his raiment. He does so with his left hand only and keeps the right behind his back. He hands them one by one to Ungoliant who eats them. Finishing, she becomes upset ANGLE ON: Melkor's right hand sizzling while holding a crystal case. BACK TO SCENE:
Ungoliant: (to Melkor, upset) With one hand thou give, with the left only. Open thy right hand!
Melkor: (to Ungoliant, loud) Nay, thou have had thy due! By my power that I put into thee, thy work was accomplished. I need thee no more. These things thou shall never have nor see. I name them unto myself forever.
CUT TO: MED SHOT CONT'T: MOVING SHOT: Ungoliant hisses loudly and leaps at Melkor knocking him down. He then jumps to his feet in a crouched position to discover thick black vapor around him that starts to solidify and become jagged and sharp. Thorns like needles emerge and stab him over his body. He holds on dearly to the crystal casket and it burns him more and more.
Melkor: (loud, in pain) AAARRRGGHH! (Echoes for a few seconds)
Ungoliant: (to Melkor, crazed and upset) More! More! Give it all to me!
Melkor: (very loud, in dismay and pain) RRRAAAHHH!!! (Echoes and the ground trembles)
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: PAN ACROSS: Valley and Mountain Range to a large ruined fortress with no roof. Suddenly, part of the existing walls collapse with an earthquake rumble. Thick gray smoke bellows up. A large cave-in produces a huge gaping hole in the ground.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Ungoliant circling Melkor who is entrapped in harden black web with spikes.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: MOVING SHOT: over the low mountain tops, smoke with flames reflecting can be seen. Terrible roars and yells are heard. The smoke and flame rush quickly over the mountains and low hills.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: The smoke and flame surrounds the two black foes in the valley. Whips leap out from the smoke and lick the rear of Ungoliant. She looks quickly behind her as if ready to strike but even more whips jump out to wound her. She cries out and belches black ink like vapor. She then takes off away from Melkor and the fire cloud with black vapor clouding her trail. Two monstrous figures of flame come out of the smoke cloud but and are still smoking. Three other figures, including the largest one in the middle of the cloud, can be seen very faintly. The two outside the cloud break the harden vapor web from around Melkor and he stands up tired but with a small grin on his face.

Scene: 33 - Valar Contemplation
FADE IN: INT: Mahanaxar, bright starlight - MED. SHOT: The Valar are all there in the Ring of Doom, quiet and still. There are some Maiar and a few elves. PAN ACROSS: the faces of the Valar who are thinking quietly with an occasional look at each other as if to transfer an idea mentally. Finally, Oromë speaks.
Oromë: (to Manwë) As thou have surmised King Manwë, there can be no doubt that Melkor had aid in this terrible venture.
Manwë: (to Oromë) But from where this evil aid originated still perplexes me.
Tulkas: (to all) We thought ourselves vigilant, it appears not enough so.
Oromë: (to Manwë) Should we send for Ulmo to come to council, since undoubtedly Melkor has returned to Middle-earth?
Manwë: (to Orome, to all) I know the mind and heart of my good friend Ulmo and can venture as to what he would say. He would have had tidings of Melkor's return by now through his own prowess. We need to meditate as to the best course of action to take for healing and restoration of those things damaged by Melkor.
Yavanna: (to Manwë) But this destruction seems complete King Manwë. The trees are not to be resurrected with the Silmarils now gone.
Manwë: (to Yavanna, to all) Yet redress must and will be made. We must not reside in defeat forever, though it surrounds us, we must move on.

Scene: 33 - From Angst to Fell Oath
DISSOLVE: EXT: Streets of Tirion lit by torch light. MED SHOT: Nerdanel walking with Indis. Elves run past quickly in the opposite direction. Nerdanel becomes curious
Nerdanel: (to an elf running by) Please friend, tell us, what is going on?
Noldor Male Elf: (to Nerdanel) Fëanor has returned. He is in the square!
Nerdanel: (to Noldor male elf) That can not be. He is still under the ban.
Noldor Male Elf: (to Nerdanel) Nonetheless, he stands on the steps and many are gathering.
Indis: (to all) Much harm may come about because of his presence.
Nerdanel: (to Indis) I agree; we must go there now.
CUT TO: EXT: Square in Tirion lit with many torches. LONG SHOT: Fëanor is on the steps to the King's mansion with his sons. A crowd has gathered.
Fëanor: (to all) My Noldor people, why should we longer serve the jealous Valar, who cannot keep us or even their own realm secure from their enemy? And though he is now their foe, are not they and he of one kin?
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Nerdanel and Indis make their way to Fingolfin and Finarfin in the crowd.
Fëanor: O.S.V. (to crowd) Vengeance calls me hence, but even was it otherwise I would no longer dwell in the same land with the kin of my father's slayer and of the thief of my treasure. Yet I am not the only valiant in this valiant people.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Nerdanel, Indis looks sad while anger is rising in the face of Fingolfin.
Fëanor: O.S.V. (to crowd) And have you not all lost your King? And what else have you not lost, cooped here in a narrow land between the mountains and the sea?
MED. SHOT CONT'D: The rest of Finwë's grandchildren are now filtering into the crowd and try to get closer to their fathers.
Fëanor: O.S.V. (to crowd) Here once was light that the Valar begrudged to Middle-earth, but now darkness levels all. Shall we mourn here deedless for ever, a shadow-folk, mist-haunting, dropping vain tears in the thankless sea? Or shall we return to our home? In Cuivienen sweet ran the waters under the unclouded stars, and wide lands lay about, where a free people might walk. There they lie still and await us who in our folly forsook them. Come away! Let the cowards keep the city!
Nerdanel: (sadly, softly speaks) He is mad. He urges the Noldor to leave Aman...he is mad.
Fingolfin: (to those close by) Mad or otherwise, he rebels against the Valar.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor on the steps surrounded by his sons. ZOOM IN SLOW:
Fëanor: (to the crowd) Fair shall the end be, though long and hard shall be the road! Say farewell to bondage! But say farewell also to ease, say farewell to the weak, and say farewell to your treasures. We shall make even more. Journey light, but bring your swords! For we will go further than Oromë, endure longer that Tulkas; we will never turn back from pursuit. After Morgoth to the ends of the Earth! War shall he have and hatred undying. But when we have conquered and have regained the Silmarils, then we and we alone shall be the lords of the unsullied Light, and masters of the bliss and beauty of Arda. No other race shall oust us!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Nerdanel, Fingolfin, Indis, and Finarfin
Nerdanel: (to a Fingolfin) He speaks of another people, not Eldar?
Fingolfin: (to those close by) A few have received rumor of such tidings some time ago.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor
Fëanor: (to crowd) Long have we been in the so called Blessed Realm to receive instruction, and to have bliss which was said could not be obtained in Middle-earth. Then why do the Valar not offer the After-comers the same? These that they call "men", have been destined to come forth in the same wide land that we were told to abandon. Shall they inherit what was intended for us? I say no; we will reclaim the Silmarils and take back what is rightfully ours!
CUT TO: MED SHOT: The crowd cries out, "to Middle-earth", "let us go!" PAN ACROSS: the crowd PAN STOP: on Fingolfin and kin
Finarfin: (to Finarfin) It seems our brother means to have a kingdom of his own.
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin, upset) That is not very surprising to me. This has to be stopped.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: MOVING SHOT: Fingolfin, upset, tries to make his way toward Fëanor.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: ZOOM IN SLOW: Fëanor
Fëanor: (to crowd, fell and serious) No matter if foe or friend, whether foul or clean, birthed from Morgoth or even a Valar, Eldar, Maiar or these After comers yet unborn; no law, nor love, nor agreement of swords, danger or even Doom itself shall keep any safe from me or my kin. For whoso hides or hoards, or takes in hand, finding and then keeps or cast afar a Silmaril, I swear, he shall have torture and death until the end of the world. Here me Eru Iluvatar, The One and All Father! To the everlasting-darkness doom me if I fail. On the holy mountain, witness and remember my oath, Varda and Manwë!
CUT TO: MED SHOT: PAN ACROSS: The crowd; they are quiet and Fingolfin is stopped in his tracks, in horror. PAN CONTINUES: around and all the when back to Fëanor.
Fëanor: Who is now with me in this quest?!!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: the crowd gasps as the sons of Fëanor stand up quickly making a half circle around Fëanor. They unsheathe their swords and hold them up, touching the tips of them together as they speak in unison.
All of Fëanor's sons: Be he foe or friend, be he foul or clean, brood of Morgoth or bright Valar, Eldar or Maiar or After-comer, Man yet unborn upon Middle-earth, neither law, nor love, nor league of swords, dread nor danger, not Doom itself, shall defend him from Fëanor, and Fëanor's kin, whoso hides or hoards, or in hand takes, finding keeps or afar casts a Silmaril. We all swear this; death we will deal him before Day's ending, woe unto world's end! Hear our words, Eru All Father! To the everlasting Darkness doom us if our deed fails. On the holy mountain hear in witness and our vows remember, Manwë and Varda!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Fingolfin, furious, forces his way near to Fëanor. Turgon follows close after him. Finarfin and Orodreth slowly make their way too.
Fingolfin: (to Fëanor, very loud and upset) You have gone too far Fëanor and grave folly have you and your sons commented. Neither wise nor brave is this action. (Turns and speaks to the crowd) Be not taken in by his words for they are vain and dangerous! (Turns back to Fëanor) Fëanor...why do you come to entice our people in such a matter when you do not have the leave of the Valar to be here? You rebel openly against them; those who have ever done kindness to our people. Let them redress the resent wrongs and punish Morgoth. Stop this! Turgon: (to Fëanor) Yes, it is madness to leave Aman at this time!
Fëanor: (to Turgon, Fingolfin) No, it would be madness to stay. Almost all of the reasons that the Valar have told us concerning why we should abide here have been proven false. And even if they were true, the evil deeds of Morgoth have revealed how ill equipped they are for maintaining their own realm! But Fingolfin, how can you question the direction which I lead my people? You speak of words, but you seem to have forgotten the ones that you spoke before all in the Ring of Doom.
Fingolfin: (to Fëanor, loud) I have not forgotten them nor have I loss memory of the ones spoken by our father Finwë. It was he, not you, which awoke in Cuivienen with the forefathers of all the Eldar! It was he that urged our people here to Aman; he that led our people selfishly on a long road and whose hand was in the building of Tirion upon the hill of Tuna, and then was given leave by Ingwe to preside over all here in the city. Who are you but a loud self-promoter who has always sought to increase his fame and glory!
Fëanor: (to Fingolfin, Fierce) How dare you speak such things to me! It is but a reflection of your true heart for you have ever desired the throne of my father and fear that all those hopes are now at an end. Shall sharp metal yet find your neck half-brother?! For I will not suffer your interferences or plots for usurping my throne any longer!
MED SHOT CONT'D: Fingolfin and Fëanor draw their swords. Finrod rushes up to stand near Turgon with hand on hilt.
Finarfin: (to Fëanor and Fingolfin) Brothers, please! Let the heat of your hearts cool a little. There is no need for rash words in these dark days. Give pause so that these things can be judged rightly without unneeded emotion, for what is at hand will impact us all no matter what is decided.
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin) (Pause) Maybe time is needed, but Fëanor is still with out the leave of the Valar and his presence here is rebellion.
Fëanor: (to Fingolfin, to Finarfin) Do not be concern with me and the "leave" of the Valar; but moreover, how long do you suggest it take to arrive at the proper conclusion Finarfin; a day, a few days, a few years, an age of the Valar?
Orodreth: (to Fëanor) How ever long it takes uncle, and if you return to Formenos, then perhaps Fingolfin and my father could obtain an audience with the Valar and explain that...
Fëanor: (to Orodreth) Explain what Orodreth? That I am meek minded like you and your father, and came by the hill of Tuna to see how well "King Fingolfin" instructed the Noldor in the making of torches to endure the darkness?
Fingolfin: (to Fëanor) Will you always seek to harm others with your words Fëanor?! You cast dispersions on others when you should take inventory of yourself and the motivation behind your own deeds!
Fëanor: (turning to the crowd, loud) Enough! Where are the brave among you? Are we less than our forefathers and so filled with fear that we will not set out on the road they traversed? Many have dreamed of it as I; will we continue to just talk and wait in the darkness?
Finarfin: (to Fëanor, to crowd) Fëanor, (turns to the crowd) Listen my people; time can be used wisely but over haste will lead to disaster. Will you not even consider that...
Fëanor: (interrupting, to crowd) We have considered too much already, we will go!
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: Many elves influenced by Fëanor voice their feelings
Crowd: (loud) "Yes, let us be gone." "To Middle-earth we go, to our lands." "Death to Morgoth!" "Yes, yes, let us go!"
CUT TO: MED SHOT: Fingon moves close to Galadriel through the crowd with Angrod and Aegnor close behind him.
Fingon: (to Galadriel) Now this is a sight to see. I have mixed emotions about it.
Galadriel: (to Fingon) Is it so cousin? Strangely, I feel the same way. I felt anguish deep in my heart at the oath they took. I do no such thing, but I wish to go when it is time. What of you cousin Fingon, and of you my brothers?
Angrod: (to Galadriel, to Fingon) My heart is torn by the choices at hand. What is your wisdom on this matter Fingon?
Aegnor: (to Fingon) Indeed cousin Fingon; I will follow your lead, but I will not speak against our fathers.
Fingon: (to all) I considered Maedhros at one time a close friend, but I have little love for Fëanor. When the time comes...yes, I will go also.
MED SHOT CONT'D: The crowd cheers for Fëanor and the decision to leave Aman. ZOOM OUT SLOW: Fëanor holds his sword up as does his sons. The blades shine with an eerie reddish tint, as if stained with blood.

FADE IN: EXT/INT: Workshops, forges, streets of Tirion; Mahanaxar MONTAGE: Series of shots of the Noldor working on weapons, armor, shields, flags, tents and other items mixed with flashes of the Valar at Mahanaxar, very still and quiet. Fëanor outside his forge in Tirion, holding up a lamp lit by a crystal, calls to Maedhros
Fëanor: (to Maedhros) Go tell your brothers that the time is at hand, then go to Finwë's hall and deliver word there.
CUT TO: INT: A room in Finwë's mansion lit with a torch MED. SHOT: Indis sits; Fingolfin and Finarfin stand
Indis: (to Fingolfin) I will speak of this no further!
Fingolfin: (to Indis) But mother...
Indis: (to Fingolfin, Finarfin) My sons, you have more than my leave to go. We all know that our people will need you two on this journey.
Finarfin: (to Indis) It troubles me that my wife stays, but my loath for going is now doubled learning that that you are not going also.
Indis: (to Finarfin) These are troubling times and all hearts feel a strain, but our kin are eager for the road as are many of our people. You must see to them.
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin) Mother is correct. It also grieves me that my wife stays, but it is for her best that she does. You and I cannot allow our people to leave with Fëanor as their leader. We have long discussed this over the past year...
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Knocking on the door.
Fingolfin: (to person at door) We are in council, what matter do you have?
Servant behind the door: (to Fingolfin) Fëanor's eldest is here with a message.
CUT TO: EXT: Near the outskirts of Tirion. MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Elves are packing and gathering items to take on the journey. Fëanor is walking with Maedhros and Maglor amid the people. Fëanor: (to both sons) We will set out northward as Morgoth did; to where the wasteland of Araman and the coast of Middle-earth draw together. There we will make our crossing.
Maedhros: (to Fëanor) Many long leagues with such a great host may prove to be difficult father. Slow will be the journey at any rate.
Fëanor: (to Maedhros) We will press on at the best speed possible. Your uncles are to lead their groups but we will not slow for them; they must keep up.
CUT TO: EXT: On a rooftop that overlooks the masses LONG SHOT: There is a flash of lighting and the wind blows. ZOOM IN: Eonwë appears
Eonwë: (loud and commanding) Harken unto me O Noldor; all that are gathered and ready to depart, hear the words of King Manwë, Lord of the breath of Arda. The Eldar King has spoken thus, "Against the folly of Fëanor shall be set my counsel only. Go not forth! The hour is evil, and thy road leads to sorrow that ye do not foresee. No aid will the Valar lend in this quest; but neither will they hinder; for this ye shall know: as ye can hither freely, freely shall ye depart. But thou Fëanor Finwë's son, by thine own oath art exiled. The lies of Melkor thou shalt unlearn in bitterness. Vala he is, thou said. Then thou has sworn in vain, for none of the Valar can thou overcome now or ever within the halls of creation, not though Eru whom thou name had made thee thrice greater then thou are.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: The hosts of Noldor are silent for a few seconds. Fëanor turns to address the Noldor and not Eonwë.
Fëanor: (to crowd, laughs a little) So, will this valiant people send forth the heir of their King alone into banishment with his sons only, and return to their bondage? But if any will come with me, I say to them: Is sorrow foreboded to you? But in Aman we have seen it. In Aman we have come through bliss to woe. The other now we will try: through sorrow to find joy; or freedom, at least.
Eonwë: O.S.V. (to Fëanor) And is this all that thou have in answer to King Manwë?
Fëanor: (turning to face Eonwë) No...Say this to Manwë Sulimo, High King of Arda: if Fëanor cannot overthrow Morgoth, at least he delays not to assail him, and sits not idle in grief. And it may be that Eru has set in me a fire greater than you know. Such hurt at the least will I do to the Foe of the Valar that even the mighty in the ring of Doom shall wonder to hear it. Yea, in the end, they shall follow me. Farewell!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Eonwë has a surprised look on his face; he bows and leaves as the crowd cheers for the going forth. Small groups that follow Fëanor cheer the loudest and start out on the path leading away from Tirion.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor and all of his sons join the crowd and march quickly away.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fingolfin motions for his people to start out but they go slowly. PAN TO: Finarfin saying goodbyes to Indis and his wife. ZOOM IN SLOW: Finarfin, Eärwen, Indis
Finarfin: (to Eärwen and Indis) Pray to Manwë for us my loves. Pray unto Eru till I return.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: A small group of elves wave sadly as Finarfin and his children set out with the host that he is leading. They are the last and are leaving slowly. Fëanor's group is seen far in the distance with torches held high but fading into the darkness.

FADE IN: EXT: Open Pasture with a narrow trial LONG SHOT: A few hundred elves heavily armored marching across the land. ZOOM IN: Maedhros, Maglor, Celegrom and Caranthir.
Caranthir: (to brothers) It has been days since we have set out and even with our smaller host, we are barely making headway!
Maglor: (to Caranthir) You must improve your patience on this journey. It will take us many long days to make it up Araman.
Celegrom: (to brothers) Of course it will, but there must be a better way. I have many beasts coming on this quest. Huan can make do on what ever the terrain, but I do not wish for my horses to suffer over broken land if it could be avoided.
Maglor: (to Celegrom, joking) Maybe we could acquire a ship or two for your animals and Caranthir, all would be the happier.
MED. SHOT: Maedhros stops suddenly as a new thought becomes clear to him; the others stop and have questioning looks.
Maedhros: (to brothers) Ships would surly help. Let us go council with father.
DISSOLVE: EXT: Alqualonde LONG SHOT: The city; aerial view. PAN ACROSS: Towers and spires near the sea with the stars reflecting. Fëanor: (to all) ...through sorrow to find joy; or freedom at least; shall we not inherit what was intended for us? And we do not delay to assail Morgoth, but go forth to avenge the death of Finwë and the stealing of our precious treasure.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: The Teleri elves seem troubled by Fëanor's words
Olwë: (to Fëanor) Bitter is the tale of the death of your father, King Finwë, and I am sorry for the lost of the Silmarils. I heard the account of those events when the deeds were still fresh, and though time has past they still hurt deeply.
Fëanor: (to Olwë) I am glad that in this dark hour we have allies that we can depend on for aid.
Olwë: (to Fëanor) Aid for your quest Fëanor; I have pledge no such thing. I do sympathize for all that has befallen you and your people, and we feel the lost of the trees even far out on these shores but I do not agree with your course of action.
Fëanor: (to Olwë) Do you not see that our need is great? Why would you refuse those that you have called friends in the past? Surely many of your people would agree with me.
Olwë: (to Fëanor) You choose to address an issue that should be reserved for the Valar to contend with. Morgoth, as you name him now, was never welcomed here for we had always been wary of him at the advice of Lord Ulmo. We still trust that Lord Ulmo and the other great Valar will redress the hurts of Morgoth, and that the night will yet pass to a new dawn.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor grabs his sword hilt, glances at his sons and then glares at Olwë with smoldering anger.
Fëanor: (to Olwë, loud and upset) You then renounce your friendship, even in the hour of our greatest need. Yet you were glad indeed to receive our aid when you came at last to these shores, fainthearted loiterers, and well nigh empty handed. In huts on the beaches would you be dwelling still, had not the Noldor carved out your havens and toiled upon your walls!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: All of the Teleri but Olwë are shocked by Fëanor
Olwë: (to Fëanor, calmly) We renounce no friendship. But it may be the part of a friend to rebuke a friend's folly. And when the Noldor welcomed us and gave us aid, otherwise then you spoke: in the land of Aman we were to dwell for ever, as brothers whose houses stand side by side. But as for our white ships: those you gave us not. We learned not the craft from the Noldor, but from the Lords of the Sea; and the white timbers we crafted with our own hands, and the white sails were woven by our wives and daughters.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: All those in the Square
Fëanor: (to Olwë, coldly) So, you would withhold all of your ships; regardless of past deeds done or future payment promised?
Olwë: (to Fëanor) We will neither give nor sell them for any league of friendship. For I say to you, Fëanor son of Finwë, these are to us as are the gems of the Noldor: the work of our hearts, whose like we will not make again.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: MOVING SHOT: Fëanor stares hotly at Olwë then exhales and seems to cool. He turns and motions for his sons to follow him. They all leave out together. Maedhros, Caranthir, Curufin and Celegrom are closest to Fëanor
Curufin: (to Fëanor) What next father? If I had the time to study the ships I might be able...
Caranthir: (to Curufin, interrupting) That would take too much time. Even if you could master ship building, you could not build them alone and it would be too difficult to teach enough Noldor to assist you.
Celegrom: (to Caranthir) Then what bright idea do you have Caranthir?
Fëanor: (to all, to Maedhros) Silence! Maedhros, see if the rest of those bound to us have gathered near the city. Fingolfin, Finarfin, and their host are some hours behind...come to me when our host is fully assembled.

Scene: 36 - Kinslaying
FADE IN: EXT: Open pasture land MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Fingon, Angrod, and Aegnor walk together over dark pasture with lit torches
Fingon: (to Angrod and Aegnor) Well, I think that I will be just as glad to see your grandfather Olwë as you will be.
Angrod: (to Fingon) Time with Olwë is always good. Galadriel said that she enjoyed her stay in Alqualonde. Of course, that was before... (Sigh)
Aegnor: (to Fingon) Our mother told us to make sure that all under Finarfin's leadership paid their respects to Olwë.
Fingon: (to Aegnor) Perhaps he might help us in the quest. Some of his people could...
MED. SHOT CONT'D: They stop as Fingon "listens" to the wind. Turgon and Finrod come up from behind them.
Angrod: (to Fingon) What is it Fingon?
Turgon: (to Fingon, standing next to him) I hear it too my brother. There is a great tumult.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Finrod waves on a band of elves behind him. They join the group and among them is Galadriel.
Galadriel: (to Finrod) What is going on Finrod? I feel some dread near by.
Finrod: (to all, to Fingon) Something is wrong; let us go and see what sends so ill a feeling.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Several dozen elves are now with the group of cousins. They speed over the land swiftly.
DISSOLVE: EXT: Alqualonde piers LONG SHOT: Noldor elves in full of armor trying to advance with Teleri firing arrows at them from their ships. A number of Noldor fall. PAN ACROSS: city streets; fires are starting because of fallen torches and overturned lamps. ZOOM IN: Fëanor in a square near the piers. He fights five Teleri, with ferocious swordplay.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Maglor comes to assist Fëanor but all five have fallen by the time that he gets there. Arrows whisk by and Noldor are running for cover in the background.
Maglor: (to Fëanor) Father, we must take cover from these arrows.
Fëanor: (to Maglor) What of Maedhros and Celegrom at the piers?
MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Both duck arrows and hurry to a covered entryway
Maglor: (to Fëanor, loud over the fighting) They have been driven back for a third time. They are trying to regroup at the storehouses.
Fëanor: (to Maglor, angrily) Then let us be off there!
MED. SHOT: Before Maglor can reply, Fëanor has sprinted halfway across the square to the other side.
CUT TO: EXT: Olwë's high tower overlooking the fighting MED. SHOT: A few guards on the steps. Olwë prays.
Olwë: (to Ulmo and Eru) Hear me Ulmo, The Lord of waters, hear your faithful and of our plight. Lord Ulmo, one of the Aratar, who are the mightiest Valar of Eru Iluvatar; please help to us in this dire hour. Eru, All father, do not forsake us.
CUT TO: EXT: Shore near Alqualonde MED. SHOT: Fingon, Turgon, Galadriel and the rest arrive near the shore and hear battling in the distance. Fires light up the sky as smoke rises from the city.
Finrod: (to himself and all) What in the name of Manwë is happening?!
Fingon: (to Finrod) Fighting in the city, there can be no mistake.
Galadriel: (to Fingon and Finrod, upset) But how, why...
CUT TO: MED SHOT: GROUP P.O.V. - Two Noldor approached from the city. They are bloodied and wounded.
Wounded Noldor #1: (to Fingon) Prince Fingon, where is your father...his host? We cannot...
MED SHOT: GROUP P.O.V. - The elf collapses.
Wounded Noldor #2: (to all) All...all, will be...lost. We need more...Noldor.
MED SHOT: The elf falls to his knees gasping for air in front of the group. Two dozen elves from Fingolfin's host arrive and join the group. The one leading them speaks.
Elf Leader: (looking at the city) Prince Fingon, your father has inquired as to your whereabouts and why have you gone so far ahead, but I now see the reason.
Fingon: (to leading elf) How far behind are the hosts that my father leads?
Elf Leader: (to Fingon) They have quickened their pace and should be here shortly. ...is it so, do the Teleri assail us in the city?
Turgon: (to Fingon) We must know what has befallen our people.
Galadriel: (to all) I would lead you through the streets but I feel that what I see might make my heart break. Finrod knows the city almost as well as I. He can lead you while I tend to wounded here.
Fingon: (to all) Then let us be off to Alqualonde.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Finrod and Fingon lead group of nearly a hundred elves to the city. They run swiftly over the sands and approach the gates to the city as arrows fly out at them.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: They manage to dodge and parry them and enter into the city. Finrod slows and then stops in shock as the view of the wreck of the city becomes clear. Angrod and Aegnor stop in shock also but the others speed by to follow Fingon onward.
Fingon: (to Elf Leader, ducking arrows) Have the Valar enlisted the Teleri to hinder us from leaving Aman?
Elf Leader: (to Fingon) They must have, why else do they attack?
MED. SHOT: An arrow strikes the Elf leader in the neck and he falls. Fingon tries to drag him out of the street but three arrows strike the fallen elf in the chest. Fingon becomes enraged and lets out a horrible battle cry
CUT TO: INT: Large storage house near the piers MED. SHOT: Fëanor, Maedhros, Maglor, and Caranthir are present as well as about fifty other Noldor.
Maedhros: (to Fëanor) Celegrom has managed to capture two ships and has led them out of harms way.
Maglor: (to Fëanor and Maedhros) A heavy price was paid in Noldor lives for them.
Fëanor: (to both sons) This is true, but now my chief concern is that Celegrom has taken himself and his forces out of battle and cannot aid us in capturing the rest of the ships.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: A Noldor scout comes in quickly from a guarded doorway and reports to Fëanor
Noldor Scout: (to Fëanor) King Fëanor, the Teleri on the north pier are turning back to the city and abandoning the crosswalks.
Maedhros: (to father and brothers) Why would they leave post that they have held so efficiently?
Caranthir: (to father and brothers) No matter the reason, this is a great opportunity.
Fëanor: (to Caranthir and all) Indeed it is. Onward behind them Noldor!
CUT TO: EXT: Storehouse MED. SHOT: The door to the storehouse flies open and the Noldor pour out and quickly fan out, taking positions on the piers and crossways. A few Noldor shoot arrows at the leaving Teleri striking some. Fëanor's twins, Curufin, and a small company of elves come up behind Fëanor from doorways further down the dock.
Curufin: (to Fëanor) How has this happened father?
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: The docks with Fëanor's sons and groups of Noldor look out toward the city's interior. A faint horn is heard in the distance. Then Teleri start running back out of the street toward Fëanor and his elves.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: As they get near, they throw down their bows and their small swords. They fall on their knees and look at the ground.
Fëanor: (to Curufin) That would be Fingolfin's horn. Your uncle is actually good for something after all.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor and sons ZOOM OUT: to show all of the dead and much of the destruction at the pier.

Scene: 37 - Aftermath and the road
FADE IN: EXT: Alqualonde, twilight EXTRA LONG SHOT: Gray and white smoke issuing forth from a few building; outsides the walls are two camps. The nearest flies Fingolfin's banner, the other flies none. Fëanor’s banner can be seen flying in the city.
CUT TO: INT: Large tent inlaid with jewels MED SHOT: Fingolfin is inside looking at the city through the entryway when Finarfin and Orodreth come in.
Finarfin: (to Fingolfin, somber and upset) This is beyond anything that I could have darkly imaged Fingolfin. (pause) Have you been in the city yet? I...I have not the heart to go.
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin) Just inside the walls. I have sent teams to gather the bodies of the Noldor; they are to be taken back to Tirion to their love ones, until the Valar make their decisions on them.
Orodreth: (to Fingolfin) I still do not comprehend how these horrid events began. Fëanor has his sons preparing the ships of Alqualonde for sail and so busied, they do not speak. My siblings and your sons found the battle fully engaged when they arrived.
Fingolfin: (to both) An ill rumor has gone out, that at the bidding of the Valar, Olwë commanded the Teleri to waylay the hosts going forth.
Finarfin: (to Fingolfin, shocked) That is outrageous! The Valar would not have requested such an evil deed be done and Olwë and the Sea Elves would have never carried such a request out!
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin) I am inclined to agree with you, and certainly so since Fëanor is in the midst of this. The whole truth must be known.
Orodreth: (to Finarfin) With your leave, I will go inquire of Olwë. Many have shut themselves up in their dwellings and speak to no one and Olwë has not been seen. So Galadriel should go with me since she spent time in the city and may be able to learn more than I alone.
Finarfin: (to Orodreth, sad, tearing up) Yes, do so my son, I am too sad and ashamed to see seek after your grandfather. This is such a bitter road in which we travel and we have not even left Aman.
MED SHOT CONT'D: Orodreth bows and leaves out
Fingolfin: (Finarfin) If it was not for my children and the great numbers of my house that refuse to stay here in Aman, I would go back to Tirion this very moment. But that is not to be my fate; and as grievous as this happening has been; it seems that a darker doom awaits me far from this place. If you will excuse me, I must be off carry out an unpleasant task myself
Finarfin: (to Fingolfin) I will go with you brother. Let me...
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin, interrupting) No, go and comfort the Noldor hosts here; you have more talent than I in soothing troubled minds, but first gather yourself dear brother. You are Finwë’s son be strong and sober.
Finarfin: (to Fingolfin) Yes Fingolfin, Eru be with all of us
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: They embrace tightly

Scene: 38 - Doom of the Noldor:
FADE IN: EXT: The shores of Aman LONG SHOT: The hosts of the Noldor are marching.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Celegrom riding along the waters edge as the hosts march. He rides to the front of the leading group. He dismounts near Fëanor who is having a heated debate with Fingolfin and Finarfin as they walk.
Fëanor: (to Fingolfin and Finarfin) ...I told you in Alqualonde and I will tell you once more, let the wounded stop on the shores to heal and then follow us later. I will not have any more delays!
Fingolfin: (to Fëanor) They are wounded because of your recklessness! Now you want to abandon those who fought for you in your vile attack?
Fëanor: (to Fingolfin) I say this for the last time half-brother, Olwë's forces fired upon us first. What would you do if a full volley of arrows was launched against you?
Fingolfin: (to Fëanor) What would you do if someone tried to take something as precious as the Silmarils from you without your leave?
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor turns to face Fingolfin, tense with hand on sword hilt but Fingolfin is relaxed. The wind picks up during the brief silence. Finarfin interrupts.
Finarfin: (to Fëanor) Fëanor, I believe that your son stands ready to give report.
Fëanor: (to Celegrom, relaxes) Yes Celegrom, what is the condition of the ships?
Celegrom: (to Fëanor, bows, cautious) There have been losses as you feared father. It has taken us many days to assess the damage and account for all the casualties; although the storm has pasted, the waters still remain somewhat rough.
MED SHOT CONT'D: MOVING SHOT: They all start to walk forward again
Finarfin: (to Celegrom) Sad tidings and ill omens, but such is the news in dark days. The sea has even risen up against us.
Fëanor: (to Celegrom) How many Noldor and ships where lost during the tempest?
Celegrom: (to Fëanor) After half dozen days of searching, a fourth of the Noldor who sailed have not been accounted for; Maedhros and Maglor are still searching. We still have over half the ships in fair condition; the others have been damaged severely or destroyed.
Fëanor: (to Celegrom) Go back and tell Maedhros to stop the search and gather all the lightly wounded to the main host; appoint a few healthy Noldor to tend the severely wounded and take them back to Tirion if need be. I will not suffer any more delays and...
MED SHOT CONT'D: All stop and look up toward the mountains that skirt the shore to the west. PAN ACROSS: from Fëanor's startled face to a huge dark figure on rocky outcrop near the mountains. Shadow and silhouette can only be seen of this huge figure.
Dark Figure: (loud, solemn and scary) STAND WHERE YOU ARE, BE STILL AND SILENT! (Pause) Evil thou have done and evil thou shall endure in return. Tears unnumbered ye shall shed; and the Valar will fence Valinor against you, and shut you out, so that not even the echo of your lamentation shall pass over the mountains. On the House of Fëanor the wrath of the Valar lies from the West unto the uttermost East, and upon all that will follow them it shall be laid also. Their Oath shall drive them, and yet betray them, and ever snatch away the very treasures that they have sworn to pursue. To evil end shall all things turn that they begin well; and by treason of kin unto kin, and the fear of treason, shall this come to pass. The Dispossessed shall they be FOREVER (echoes)!
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor looks away and frowns but his attention is regained in an instant by the roaring words of the figure and he looks back grimacing.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Dark Figure on mountain side
Dark Figure: (loud, solemn and scary) YE HAVE SPILLED THE BLOOD OF YOUR KINDRED UNRIGHTEOUSLY AND HAVE STAINED THE LAND OF AMAN! For blood ye shall render blood, and beyond Aman ye shall dwell in Death's shadow. For though Eru appointed to you to die not in this realm of being, and no sickness may assail you, yet slain ye may be, and slain ye shall be: by weapon and by torment and by grief; and your houseless spirits SHALL COME THEN TO MANDOS (echoes)! (Pause) There long shall ye abide and yearn for your bodies, and find little pity though all whom ye have slain should entreat for you. And those that endure in Middle-earth and come not to Mandos shall grow weary of the world as with a great burden, and shall wane, and become as shadows of regret before the younger race that comes after. THE VALAR HAVE SPOKEN (echoes)!
CUT TO: MED SHOT: Many Noldor put their hands over their ears and begin to lament because the last words of the figure are like thunder and shake the ground. Some turn and walk back through the hosts that are standing still. Fëanor looks around at the fear in the others eyes and gets frustrated.
Fëanor: (to figure, upset, bitter) We have sworn, and not lightly. This oath we will keep. We are threatened with many evils, and treason not the least; but one thing is not said: that we shall suffer from cowardice, from cravens or the fear of cravens. Therefore I say that we will go on, and this doom I add: the deeds that we will do will be the matter of song until the last days of Arda.
Finarfin: (to Fëanor, sad, upset) You are more than misguided Fëanor. You are a mad and even beyond that! You have always put yourself before the wellbeing of others and even in the face of who may be the Doomsman himself you would thwart all reason and rationality!
Fëanor: (to Finarfin) You give into fear to easily Finarfin. The Valar hope that this display would play on that weakness.
Finarfin: (to Fëanor) We all have faults such as lack of patience, overconfidence, and selfishness that you have Fëanor. Yes, I do fear the Valar and value their words, and so I will no longer tolerate you and your rebellion against them.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Fingolfin and Finarfin walk towards the water
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin) What are you proposing to do my brother?
Finarfin: (to Fingolfin) I will take those of my host who wish to go no further, back to Tirion and then ask pardon from the Valar. The wounded from the sea and the kin slaying will also be in my care. You must go forward and balance out Fëanor's wayward leadership, but I do admit I would rather have both of us return home.
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin) Are you sure that you want to do this?
Finarfin: (to Fingolfin) Yes I do, and many others have spoken privately of returning home even before now. I can no longer endure standing in the presence of Fëanor. He has harmed me deeply because of my kinship with Olwë. I must find a way to restore what Fëanor has pillaged.
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin) These are sorrowful times my brother. Speak to Manwë and pray to Eru on my behalf; though they both will not be pleased with my continuing on this journey no matter what my reasons may be.
Finarfin: (to Fingolfin) Nevertheless, I will do so. And a favor I ask of you Fingolfin. I do not think that any of my children will follow me home. Watch over them and give them good council.
Fingolfin: (to Finarfin) It will be done.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: They embrace; Finarfin turns and walks with a growing crowd, back the way they came. Fingolfin then looks at Fëanor who is giving out orders to Celegrom and others.
