Scene: 39 - Leaving Baggage
FADE IN: EXT: Coastline MONTAGE: MED SHOT: Elven host marching across the sandy coast, a rocky coast, and then a coastline with ice DISSOLVE: Desolate coast line - Grey sky and dim light - Amrod and Amras approach Celegrom, Curufin and Caranthir who are huddled together around a small fire, trying to shelter against the cold.
Celegrom: (to twins) Amrod and Amras, it is nice of you to join us.
Caranthir: (to twins) And where have you two been?
Amrod: (to Caranthir) Father told us to keep an eye out for the hosts of Fingolfin.
Amras: (to Caranthir, all) They are still two days behind us.
Amrod: (to all) We tried to advise them on how to speed up their progress but they would not take our council.
Curufin: (to all) Neither would they take mine so I just let them alone days ago.
Caranthir: (to all) They are too busy complaining to quicken their steps. I have heard some lament about the rocky terrain and the cold, they wish to blame all on the House of Fëanor.
Fëanor: V.S.O. (to all, stern) Better yet, on Fëanor himself; these murmurings have not escaped my hearing either Caranthir.
MED SHOT: Fëanor seems to walk out of nowhere into the circle of brothers.
Curufin: (to Fëanor) They are proving to be weak and ungrateful.
Celegrom: (to all) Many proved to be otherwise at Alqualonde when we needed aid in acquiring the other ships, but recently, indeed their fortitude has waned.
Fëanor: (to Celegrom) Have all the ships arrived near here Celegrom?
Celegrom: (to Fëanor) Yes father, under the guidance of Maedhros and Maglor they are anchored a short distance from here; less then a half day's march.
Curufin: (to Fëanor) Maedhros and Maglor stay between us and Fingolfin incase either one of us needs aid.
Caranthir: (to Fëanor) Are we going to wait for Fingolfin before we continue?
Fëanor: (to Caranthir) We are near enough to try the ships for the crossing of the straits to Middle-earth.
Amrod: (to Fëanor) Fingolfin and his host are still better than a day beyond where the ships are.
Amras: (to Fëanor) There are too few ships for all of us to go across at the same time.
Fëanor: (to all) Easy solved; since we are in control of the ships, the fewest in number of the hosts, and the closet for embarkation, let us be the first to cross.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Silence falls over all. PAN ACROSS: sons
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor with a grim smile on his face

Scene: 40 - Burning of the Ships
DISSOLVE: EXT: Shore line, the Firth of Drengist LONG SHOT: Ten ships line the shore as two more are being anchored. Elves are unloading the vessels and patrolling the star lit shore. Low trees and high grasses are evident as you look away from the shore.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor stands on a rocky dune like hill and looks down and over the shore line. Maedhros, Maglor, and Celegrom climb up to Fëanor.
Maedhros: (to Fëanor) Father, the unloading of the ships is almost complete. We have two more ships that we have not started on but we should be able to unload them quickly since we have the extra hands from the completed ships.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor stands silent and looks over the tide rolling in.
Maglor: (to Fëanor) Many of our scouts have returned. There seems to be a suitable area not far from here to setup a secure camp.
Celegrom: (to Fëanor) My hunters are out patrolling as well.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor is still silent and looks over the tide rolling in. He then speaks.
Fëanor: (to sons) Very good, all seems well. We will move out as soon as the last ship is unloaded.
Maedhros: (to Fëanor) What ships and rowers will you spare to return for the other hosts, and whom shall they bring first? Perhaps Fingon since he helped us greatly in battle?
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor looks crazed and laughs eerily
Fëanor: (to Maedhros, darkly and fell) None and none!
Maedhros: (to Fëanor, confused) Father...I...I do not understand.
Fëanor: (to sons) What I have left behind I count now as no loss; just needless baggage on the road they have proved to be. Let those that cursed my name, curse me still, and whine their way back to the cages of the Valar! Let the ships burn!
Maedhros: (to Feanor, sadden, anguish) But father...
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor cuts him off with fierce eyes. Fëanor then looks at Maglor and Celegrom.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Maglor tries to look Fëanor in the eyes but puts his head down. Celegrom bows to Fëanor quickly and hurries away to carry out the order. ZOOM OUT SLOW: Fëanor strides away and can be seen giving orders and handing out torches to the elves below. Maedhros looks at Maglor who finally looks up from the ground.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT - Maedhros and Maglor both stare at each other as the sound of the burning of the ships is heard. Maglor breaks his stare and slowly walks down to the ships. In the distance, flames are seen high on a few and just starting on the others. CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Maedhros's blank face is illuminated by the fires. You can see the flames dance in his eyes that water up, but don't cry. DISSOLVE: MED. SHOT: Fingolfin stands on an icy shore with the wind blowing. Fingon, Turgon, and Finrod stand by his sides.
Fingon: (to Fingolfin) Can you tell what it is father?
Turgon: Do you think that Morgoth has prepared for our coming?
CLOSE UP: Fingolfin stares intensely but silently. He then looks down in frustration and sadness with a deep breath.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: He turns and starts to walk away from the icy shore.
Fingolfin: (to Fingon, sad) Yes, I know to well what it is...betrayal, hate...madness. There will be no ships for us. We must brave the Helcaraxe.
MED SHOT CONT'D: All are speechless as they look at Fingolfin walk back to the host in the distance.

Scene: 41 - Tidings to Thingol
FADE IN: EXT: Deep woods - Twilight - MED SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Two elves in very different clothing move quickly through a forest silently. They come to a clearing and then a crevasse in the forest floor. They run along side of it and guards can be half seen at hidden posts. The crevasse opens to a wide dell with thick trees. There is a large outcrop of rocks on the far side. They go around to the back of it where a river runs near by, down a steep slope. A hidden door opens and the two go in. They enter larger and larger corridors with many guards. Finally they go into the throne room of Elu Thingol who is on his throne with Melian seated on his right side. Both elves bow deeply and the taller of the two speaks.
Mablung: (to Thingol, Melian) King Thingol, Queen Melian, greetings to you both, peace and vigilance. King Elu Thingol, I bring what report that I could quickly gather, as swiftly as I could to you. May I deliver it now lord?
Thingol: (to Mablung) Yes, of course Mablung, you may continue.
Mablung: (to Thingol) A larger orc host still has Cirdan cornered and cut off from us but they are held up with sufficient defense on the isles and shores near the haven.
Thingol: (to Mablung, stern and troubled) My heart goes out to Cirdan but unfortunately I cannot risk given him aid. What else have you heard Mablung?
Mablung: (to Thingol) Strange is the last part of my report. It was delivered to me by Sindar that wander west of Hithlum up near the Firth of Drengist. They report a great tumult with fire and smoke. From a far off they also heard the sound of voices and words that were like, and yet unlike, ours. The orcs in area must have heard the disturbance too for they have started to gather in numbers close by.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Thingol puts his hand to his chin as he thinks quietly. He then turns to Melian with a questioning expression. She looks lovingly at him and speaks with a beautifully clear voice.
Melian: (to Thingol) I have received no premonition and have no discernment about this Thingol. It is truly strange. More must be made known in order to take proper actions.
Thingol: (to Mablung) Take a band of our best hunters and guardsmen and make haste to the region in question. Find out as much as you can but be wary, be cautious.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Mablung and assistant
Mablung: (to Thingol) Yes King Elu Thingol, we will leave as soon as possible.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Both Mablung and the other elf bow deeply and slowly to Thingol and Melian.

Scene: 42 - Crossing the Grinding Ice
DISSOLVE: EXT: Ice wasteland; Helcaraxe LONG SHOT: Dark, wintery, wind blowing snow and ice; Gloomy Night Sky; PAN DOWN: to elves in a long caravan line. MONTAGE: MED. SHOT: Elves marching over various ice and snow laden terrain. Some elves fall and get up, some fall down but those around them help them up and on their way, and some fall and stay down. They continue to march seven across and stretched back half a league over cracked ice and snow drifts. PAN ACROSS: the elves to the front where Fingolfin and Fingon are together in the lead. ZOOM IN SLOW
Fingolfin: (to Fingon, struggling to speak) We...we will...stop over the next ridge. It should give...some protection.
Fingon: (to Fingolfin, nodding, speaks faintly) Yes father...I will tell...the others.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Fingon fights the wind and makes his way back to the first group behind him. They are Turgon, Elenwë, and their daughter Idril. Then there is Angrod and Aegnor on either side of them, then Finrod and Galadriel on either side of them in the line. Orodreth and Aredhel were behind all of them in a second line. Fingon notices that Turgon is nearly supporting all of Elenwë's weight with his arm around her and she has her eyes closed.
Turgon: (to Fingon, loud but tired) What is it brother?
Fingon: (to Turgon) We will make camp over the next ridge. (Talking to Turgon but looking at Elenwë). Many should find rest there for a while and have a break from this cursed wind.
Galadriel: (to Fingon) I will be grateful...though the news is meager.
Fingon: (to Turgon) Is she...will she be alright?
Turgon: (to Fingon, eyes start to tear) I pray...I have been praying that she will be so.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Idril starts to cry and the others look down sadly DISSOLVE: MED. SHOT: Camp is setup and Fingon is with Finrod out side a tent
Fingon: (to Finrod) We must be ready to set out again in five days, if we can reckon that time accurately by the stars in a dim sky.
Finrod: (to Fingon) I hope that Elenwë will be better by then.
Fingon: (to Finrod) That is my hope also, but the number of casualties grows with each new march. It seems like years since we left Tirion on the hill of Tuna, and I fear that there may indeed be several years that we must endure here.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Galadriel comes out of the tent solemn with tears on her cheeks. Both Finrod and Fingon look and are saddened.
Finrod: (to Galadriel) Sister, what...what has happened?
Galadriel: (to Finrod, sad) She is fading fast although Turgon and Idril try their best to encourage her to hang on.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Finrod and Fingon go slowly into the tent. Galadriel goes off into the distance out of the light of the torches. She looks up and then knells on an outcrop of icy rocks. CUT TO: LONG SHOT: Cloudy sky above as she speaks
Galadriel: O.S.V. (to Varda) Varda, Varda Elentari, hear me oh Queen of the Stars; one dear to use is in great pain and weariness, please helper, help us.
LONG SHOT CONT'D: The wind blows and the clouds open up to show bright stars.
Galadriel: O.S.V. (to Varda) Strengthen Elenwë's spirit, for the journey is long ahead of us to Middle-earth, much evil has befallen us because of Fëanor and...
LONG SHOT CONT'D: Before she can utter another word, the wind picks up and begins to howl. The opening in the sky closes quickly and it becomes darker than before.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: She tries to fight against the wind but gives up and rushes into the tent for shelter.

Scene: 43 - The Battle under Stars
FADE IN: EXT: Northern lands of Mithrim - Starlight Middle-earth MONTAGE: MED SHOT: The host lead by Fëanor makes their way from the coast inland. There are shots of the host and Fëanor's sons marching onward. The vegetation becomes denser and the trees more numerous.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: The hosts march into a huge clearing that opened up to a large lake (Lake Mithrim).
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor giving orders to his sons.
Fëanor: (to sons) We shall make camp here on the northeast side of the lake. Celegrom, take a few dozen Noldor and scout out the lands to the south of here. I know that you are anxious to be off in the woods with Huan at your side.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor and his sons
Celegrom: (to Fëanor, smiling) Yes father, I am ready to explore these lands that I have heard so much about all my life. I will gather a group together and depart immediately.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: They embrace briefly with smiles
Fëanor: (to Celegrom, proud) Then be off my son and ride safely.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Celegrom leaves as assignments are given
Fëanor: (to Caranthir, Curufin and twins) Caranthir and Curufin, please oversee the setup of the rest of the camp. Amrod and Amras make ready a guard and patrol for this area. Maedhros and Maglor come with me.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: The group disperses to follow Fëanor's instructions.
DISSOLVE: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Twins are in the woods with five other elves.
Amrod: (to two elves, pointing) You two head south along that incline. You do not have to go that far because Celegrom is scouting further south on horseback so three furlongs should suffice. Patrol Elf 1: (to Amrod) Yes prince Amrod.
MED. SHOT: The two elves leave and disappear into the brush
Amrod: (to the other patrol elves) The rest of you come with us.
MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: The group moves forward quietly except for Amrod and Amras whispering to each other.
Amras: (to Amrod, softly) There is a break in the trees and a small dell...
Amrod: (to Amras, quietly) ...just ahead of us to the north-east, I know; I sense resent activity near. A presence foreign, cold...
Amras: (to Amrod, soft, disturbed) ...and evil.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: They make it to the clearing and stand on the edge of it. They look around cautiously and silently. There are signs of an old camp fire in the middle of some stones. They slow progress into the dell when they hear a horn ring out. They look around intently and shuffle back into the foliage for cover.
Amrod: (to himself, all, frustrated) What in Aulë's name?
Amras: (to Amrod) It came from the ridge. They are not to signal with the horn unless in dire need.
Amrod: (to Amras) I know I know Amras, but what could they have...
MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: The group eyes widen at a site off screen. They run swiftly away, leaping and ducking roots and tree branches. Horrible yelling and grunted words are being shouted behind them. The twins are in front with the other three elves close behind. The last elf behind the twins yells, and all turn to see him fall face forward with a large black axe in the back. As they pause to view the fallen elf, a black spear flies through the trees and strikes another elf in the shoulder. It knocks him down but Amras removes the spear and puts him back on his feet.
Amras: (to Amrod, angry) This will not do Amrod!
Amrod: (to Amras, sternly) Certainly not; (to unwounded elf) help him back to the camp and tell my father and brothers what has happened.
MED. SHOT: The elf nods quickly and puts the wounded elf's arm around his shoulders as he helps him walk/jog away. Amras and Amrod look grimly at each other and then leap behind trees that are on either side of the narrow way in which they have traversed. The orcs pour into the tight and narrow way through the thick foliage to be caught in crossfire of arrows from the twins' bows. The orc bodies quickly pile up to the point where the orcs have to partially climb across the pile to advance. The brothers run out of arrows and so they unsheathe their swords. The brothers work as a team and cut down orcs two, three, and four at a time. Then a very large orc comes bounding over the pile. He seems to be the leader and has two large wolves on each side of him. Amrod and Amras hear something behind them and turn around to see that the orcs are coming up a path behind them. A huge beast/creature emerges from the woods and stands next to the leader. It roars loudly and the wolves growl. The twins turn back to face the beast as it starts to savagely throw the dead orc bodies at the twins. They duck, roll and jump to avoid the flying bodies.
Amrod: (to Amras, loud) I think that I have had enough of this! How about you Amras?
Amras: (to Amrod, laughs sarcastically) What, quit now? I was just getting the hang of it; but if we must go, let us go!
MED. SHOT: MONTAGE: MOVING SHOT: They rush the orcs that are coming up behind them with fell cries. Their faces seem to glow slightly. Some of orcs back up as the twins swiftly cut down those that opposed them. Then an evil cry of the beast is heard. The ground shakes as it advances after the two. The orcs follow the beast. The wolves are heard too. The twins run and have to cross a small ravine and a clearing where the Noldor cut down trees to build their camp. Suddenly a dozen Noldor rush out from the other side of the clearing and ravine. They have swords drawn and leading them is Fëanor. The twins duck down into the ravine as arrows fly from the tree line where the Noldor are. The Noldor then charge, leaping over the ravine and the twins. The twins peep up enough to see that the number of orcs is four times the number of Noldor. The Noldor have a dim glow about their faces.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor runs toward the beast. Maglor and Maedhros flank Fëanor and each slay orcs and kill one of the wolves. Fëanor takes a huge leap towards the beast
Fëanor: (very loud, fierce) Gwanna, gwanna-torog! Death to you beast!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: The beast is surprised and tries to block Fëanor but loses his arms instead. Fëanor lands on the beast knocking him down and then drives his sword through the beast's throat. The leader of the orcs starts to run away. Fëanor jumps up and runs him down; ending him with his sword plunged through his back. The other orcs see this and stop fighting. They turn and run back the way they came just as orc reinforcements arrive. The reinforcements are puzzled by the retreat until they see the dead beast, the dead leader and Fëanor's approaching them with no fear. They slowly back away and then begin to retreat too.
Fëanor: (to all, Morgoth, fierce) After them, let none live! (Looking up at the dark mountains)I come to assail you Morgoth and take back that which are mine!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fëanor rushes after the orcs followed by four of the Noldor that he has lead, and disappear into the woods.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Amrod and Amras climb out of the ravine and find Maglor looking at them.
Maglor: (to twins) So there you are. I had expected better of you two. I hope father does not learn of your hiding from the battle.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Maglor shakes his head and walks away. The twins look at each other and chuckle a little.

Scene: 44 - Flower and Fruit
WIPE: INT: Mahanaxar LONG SHOT: The ring is dim except for the brilliance and glow from the Valar and Maiar seated.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: SLOW PAN ACROSS: The Valar as they look at each other in silence but seem to be communicating with each other. PAN STOP: on Manwë.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Eonwë comes in and approaches Manwë. He bows and Manwë signals with his hand to give report. Eonwë: (to Manwë) Elder King, I have tidings that thou should be made aware of. The hosts of Noldor have now passed out of Aman. Many are crossing the Helcaraxe but there is a smaller group lead by Fëanor who have already set foot in Middle-earth.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Manwë closes his eyes and places his hands to his forehead. After a brief moment he puts his hands down and opens his eyes
Manwë: (to all) A long time has past since I wept at the replies Fëanor gave my messengers; hearing that he and the Noldor have finally reached their destination leaves me comfortless.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: All are silent and again look at each other
Aulë: (to Manwë, very sad) Although all grieve, it seems that I have a double portion of woe. There is so much lost and fracturing that can never be amended; my wife's wondrous trees and of those who I once smiled on and called friends...gone.
Yavanna: (to Aulë, to all) I grieve greatly for the lost of the trees and even more for the marring of Fëanor. It was an egregious thing that Melkor did to him.
Manwë: (to all, sad) Yay, aside from the error of listening to Melkor, and ill abundance of pride in his heart, none are as great as Fëanor among Iluvatar's children. Mightiest of body and mind, in valor, in endurance, in skill, in strength and subtlety alike, and set in him is a splendid bright flame. I still wonder at what works Fëanor could have produced in Iluvatar's name.
Varda: (to Manwë, to all) We have searched going back and then forward in the music that was set forth by Iluvatar, but no answer was found to resolve this woe that encompasses us.
Nienna: (to all, crying softly) Still, this grief must have an end.
Oromë: (to Manwë) Is there no guidance that Eru Iluvatar has given thee King Manwë?
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Silence for a moment, then Manwë stands
Manwë: (to all, to Yavanna and Nienna) Now is the time of action! We have sat long enough. Yavanna, Nienna, please put forth thy skills to the trees.
Yavanna: (to Manwë) I see little hope in that, but as thou wish.
Nienna: Yes, as thou wish Elder King.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: The Valar and Maiar exit The Ring of Doom to go to the once green hill (Ezellohar). DISSOLVE: EXT: Near the two trees LONG SHOT: Vanyar elves join the Ainur. ZOOM IN SLOW: Yavanna starts to sing and Nienna hums the melody softly and weeps. As the song repeats, the Vanyar elves join in softy.
MED. SHOT: Both trees. ANGLE ON: toggle shot of each tree back and forth as a small bud appears on a branch of Telperion and a small fruit starts to grow on Laurelin. BACK TO SCENE:
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Manwë with Varda and Mandos on either side.
Varda: (to Manwë) I sense that thy mind is divided in thought husband. What is it that thou still contemplate?
Manwë: (to Varda) Fëanor said that the Noldor would not sit deedless in Aman or silent and still like the Valar, but would achieve things that would be sung in songs until the end of time. Dear bought shall those songs be; but now I sense that they will be well bought. For the price could be no other. Thus even as Eru spoke to us, shall beauty not before conceived be brought into being, and evil yet be good that have been.
Mandos: (to Manwë, low, grim) And yet remain evil. (pause) To me, Fëanor shall come soon.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: both trees with a silver flower growing on Telperion and a golden fruit seen clearly growing on Laurelin. ZOOM OUT SLOW:

Scene: 45 - Passing of the Fiery Spirit
FADE IN: EXT: Elevated Rocky terrain - Heavy underbrush - Starlight LONG SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Orcs are fleeing in terror. Loud violence is heard but not seen until Fëanor suddenly comes into view; chasing down orcs and slaying them violently. He yells battle cries and laughs at the same time.
Fëanor: (to orcs, loud, derisive; sardonic) Drego, Drego glamhoth! Run to your hiding places and I will still find you there! Flee you fell sounding hoard!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fëanor hacks, stabs, and cuts down orcs left and right with speed and power. Limbs and heads of the enemy fly in every direction. He continues to peruse them as the land elevates. He looks into the far distance and sees Thangorodrim.
Fëanor: (very loud, bitter) Morgoth! Morgoth!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: PAN AROUND: 180 degrees SCROLL DOWN: the path behind Fëanor for about 500 feet where Maedhros, Maglor, the twins and three other elves are coming up the steep path. They find one of the four elves that followed Fëanor seating against a rock wounded badly while another bandages his wounds; the other two are slain.
Maedhros: (to elf medic) Where is Fëanor, where is my father?
Elf Medic: (to Maedhros) He presses the enemy up the slope ahead. We could not keep up and were ambushed by orcs that hide from him as he passed.
Maglor: (to elf medic) Then he has no guard or support?
Elf Medic: (to Maedhros) He fights and slays as if he were ten Noldor in one. I was amazed and horrified in the same instance by his skill.
Maedhros: (to elf medic, to all) He is skilled and fierce, nevertheless let us be off quick to his aid.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: The band of Noldor led by Maedhros leave the wounded and attending elves behind and swiftly run up the inclined path to the rockier region. Thick brush surrounds boulders on both sides of the path. Suddenly orcs leap out from these areas in an ambush.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Amrod yelling
Amrod: (to all, loud) Look out brothers, it is an ambush!
CUT TO: MED SHOT: The group turns and parries the first rush of the orcs
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Amras and Maglor fighting orcs
Amras: (to all, loud and unsettled) In Aulë's name, there are more?
Maglor: (to Amras and Amrod, slight grim chuckle) My, they hide almost better than you two.
CUT TO: EXT: High semi-mountains area. MED. SHOT: Fëanor is still chasing orcs as they turn a corner on a rocky pass near a cliff and disappear. Fëanor slows down and cautiously approaches the cliff and corner pass. Smoke starts to fill the area from the pass and flows down the path before him. It becomes thick and Fëanor backs up to the widest area near the cliff to brace for an attack with a stern/fierce look on his face. Smoke is very dark. Sparks and flame can be seen faintly in the smoke ahead of Fëanor. Suddenly a fell low moaning cry is heard coming from the smoke. Then a whistling sound is followed by a large back whip issuing forth from the smoke cloud; striking Fëanor with a loud cracking sound. Fëanor's armor is damaged greatly where it was struck, but he seems not to notice and makes no sound. The orcs that Fëanor pursued come out from the pass and around the huge smoke cloud. They look on with new found courage and confidence as is they sense that the tide of battle has turned. Two more of the large beast/creature that he slew earlier, comes out from around the smoke. They rush to attack Fëanor as the other orcs cheer and yell.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor in fury
Fëanor: (to all, loud and grim) Ah, more spawn of Morgoth for my thirsty sword. Come, and quench its thirst!
CUT TO: MED SHOT: MOVING SHOT: With fierce but poetic moves, Fëanor avoids the frontal attack of the two large beast/creatures, and kicks/pushes one of the cliffs in the process. The other one manages to turn and knock Fëanor down with a wild and powerful swing of his arm. Fëanor lands flat on his back and looses his sword from the impact. The beast rushes and leaps on top of Fëanor who has unsheathe a dagger which his plunges deep into the beat belly. The beast yells in anguish and slaps Fëanor. The blow knocks off Feanor's helm and stuns him for a second. He then looks up with glowing face and fierce fiery eyes. The beast pauses, dismayed at Fëanor's fierce look and finds himself being flipped off of the elf by a gate maneuver (jujitsu/judo). Fëanor is now on top of the beast and begins to pummel its face with fierce power.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Fëanor on the beast, with his back to the shot, obscuring the view of the beast's face being beat in. The beast kicks and waves its arms and then suddenly stops as its face becomes mush hidden from view.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Fëanor regains his sword, and swifter than ever, engages the orc group that stood by and watched. He quickly cuts them all down only to feel the black whip strike him on his back. He turns with an almost crazed look in his fiery eyes.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Out of the large black smoke cloud come four figures that still have smoke issuing from them, and what seems like flame on their bodies. There still remains one figure, larger than the rest, in the large smoke cloud. They are balrogs with whips, and they let them loose against Fëanor who manages to block, duck, or jump most of the strikes. The few that do land either severely damage his armor, rip his armor off, or wound him to the point of bleeding, but he continues with wide fiery eyes and a grim smile as if he has no pain. He manages to get around one balrog and uses him as a shield; causing the balrog to take some punishment and cry out. He maneuvers another balrog near an overhang of loose boulders and causes the boulders to fall on the balrog.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Maedhros and the others fighting about twenty orcs. Caranthir and Curufin come up the path from behind most of the orcs. They draw swords and attempt to aid their brothers
Maglor: (to Caranthir and Curufin) Well, it is about time you two showed up.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Caranthir and Curufin
Caranthir: (to Maglor, still hacking orcs) Do not be ungrateful Maglor; the enemy came down north of the camp as well; we just finished driving them off before coming here.
Curufin: (to Maglor, to all, killing the last orc) There must have been eight hundred on the northern slopes and we ran into two hundred more fleeing southeast. Celegrom should be able to take care of them on horse back. We came this way looking for father. Where is he?
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Maedhros
Maedhros: (to all, concerned expression, loud) Let us be off. Let us be off now!
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: Aerial view of the group running swiftly up the slopes and hilly pathways to the rock region.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: GROUP P.O.V.: They are now able to see the cliff with smoke fire and Fëanor fighting on it.
Maglor: O.S.V. (to all, excitedly) Haste, more haste my brothers!
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Fëanor facing Gothmog, lord of the balrogs, who was the large figure left in the smoke. Gothmog comes out of the large smoke cloud
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: The other balrogs look on and seem as if they all have been wounded. Gothmog appears much larger and fiercer than the other balrogs. Fëanor is bleeding from several places and his armor is all gone. He dodges the whip of Gothmog and swings his sword striking the balrog. Gothmog stumbles back but does not seem hurt. Before Fëanor has recovered from his attack, Gothmog kicks him and knocks him down. Then the whip of Gothmog strikes Fëanor's sword and knocks it out of his hand. Gothmog advances quickly as Fëanor struggles to his feet. With his shield in front, Fëanor runs swiftly and directly at Gothmog. He ducks down while running, ramps him in the ankle area, which bowls/trips the balrog causing him to fall. Fëanor regains his sword, runs and leaps to strike Gothmog in the back when the injured balrogs loose their whips and strike Fëanor down out of mid-air. Fëanor tries to get up but cannot. Gothmog rises up and comes close to Fëanor to deliver a death blow, when he is knocked down by Maedhros, Maglor, and Caranthir. They strike him over and over causing sparks to fly up from each blow and the balrog yells as if his is greatly pained.
Maedhros: (to Gothmog, loud, angry) Be gone you fowl beast! How dare you challenge Fëanor, son of Finwë! Death to you, death to you all!
CUT TO: MED SHOT: Amrod and Amras attack the next nearest balrog and Maglor and the other Noldor attach a third. CUT TO: TWO SHOT: The other two balrogs let out a terrible lamenting cry and leave in a cloud of smoke.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Gothmog manages to roll to his side and throw off his attackers so he can escape. The other besieged balrogs manage to retreat and disappear into the smoke that quickly dissipates. The brothers then rush and gather around Fëanor. Maedhros gets down on the ground and lays Fëanor's head in his lap.
Maedhros: (to Fëanor, sad and dismayed) Father, Father, we are here now, your sons are here.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor is alert but silent. He turns his head to look out over the cliff and sees Thangorodrim in the distance.
Fëanor: (to Maedhros, stern but soft) Get me down from this place Maedhros; back to the camp of my people.
Maedhros: O.S.V. (to Fëanor) Yes father.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: The brothers and the other Noldor use shields, bows, and their cloaks with scatter sticks from the brush to make a stretcher for Fëanor. They start down the path and pass numerous dead orcs and a few dead elves.
DISSOLVE: MED. SHOT: They are near the tree line in a clearing with Celegrom approaching on horseback with Huan running along side. He dismounts and rushes to the group.
Celegrom: (to all, to Fëanor) What has happen...Father?
Fëanor: (to Maedhros, softly) No further, no further, I cannot go any further.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: They halt and set him down and gather close to him.
Fëanor: (to sons, tired and soft, then stern and fierce) Sons, do not forget, this place is yours, meant for you... by Eru. It will be worth the toil...and the bloodshed. Claim it and rule it well...never give in, never stop my brave Noldor. Above all, the oath must be kept. The Silmarils I past to you; they are my legacy to you. Wretch them from the hand of our foe and let no others have them. The pure unsullied light...let none have them! NONE! NONE!
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fëanor eyes each son with a bright glow about him and a fierce crazed look. Then tears come up in his eyes.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: He keeps getting brighter until the brothers and other Noldor stand back.
Fëanor: (passion, sadness, and regret) Ada, ada Finwë, diheno Curufinwë! Diheno Curufinwë! (pause) I am so sorry father! ...forgive me...for... MED. SHOT CONT'D: With a huge flash, a fiery glowing semblance of Fëanor leaves his body and floats away. As it is does, white smoke comes up from his body like steam; his body crumbles into gray ash which slowly blows away in the wind. All who witness this event are shocked and sadden.

Scene: 46 - Treat with Morgoth
FADE IN: EXT: Fëanorian camp near a large lake. Bright twilight MED. SHOT: Several elves on patrol walking through a slightly wooded area when a horn blows with a horrid sound.
CUT TO: INT: Maedhros's tent MED. SHOT: Maedhros and Maglor seated in the tent
Maglor: (to Maedhros) What in the name of Eru was that?
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Patrol elf darts into the tent and bows
Patrol Elf: (to both) Princes Maedhros and Maglor, an envoy from the Dark Lord just came near the camp. He had no weapon and gave a message to be delivered to the sons of Fëanor.
Maglor: (to all, sarcastically) Well, how brave of him.
Patrol Elf: (to both) He wishes to meet in two days time, near a clearing over the range of hills set before us; each party being no more than a dozen in number.
Maedhros: (to Patrol elf) In two day? Is that all that he had to say?
Patrol Elf: (to Maedhros) No my prince; he said that Morgoth's forces suffered greatly battling the Noldor, and that Morgoth would be willing to give up a Silmaril to Fëanor's sons if the Noldor would depart from these lands. Maedhros: (to all, to Patrol elf) A Silmaril he wishes to give up? Thank you, you may go.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: The elf bows and leaves out
Maglor: (to Maedhros) Very interesting, but of course you know he is just as false now as he ever was in Aman.
Maedhros: (to Maglor) Yes he is, but Morgoth always hides lies inside some truth.
MED. SHOT: The rest of the brothers come into the tent and join the conversation.
Celegrom: (to all) I heard the fowl horn and guessed its purpose before the guard came to tell me the news.
Caranthir: (to all) They should have struck him down after his first breath left his lungs to sound those foul notes.
Maedhros: (to all, commanding) We must keep the appointment and meet with him.
Curufin: (to Maedhros) You cannot be serious Maedhros? Surely it is some trap.
Celegrom: (to Maedhros) He is right. Morgoth is never to be trusted.
Maedhros: (to all) And I do not trust him brothers, yet there may be unforeseen opportunity in this.
Maglor: (to Maedhros) Then if you are certain to go ahead with this, we must be more in number than suggested.
Maedhros: (to Maglor) Let it be so. I will lead a small number to the meeting. You and Celegrom will hold the rest unseen until signaled.
Maglor: (to Maedhros) It is still a great risk.
Maedhros: (to all) But it would be worth the risk, if by chance the envoy did speak the truth.
Caranthir: (to Maedhros) And if it is a lie, what then?
Maedhros: (to all, grimly) We will profit from their stupidity if they are dim witted enough to bring a Silmaril as bait. If it is trick, we will trap the trappers and crush them utterly.

Scene: 47 - Moon and Sun
FADE IN: EXT: Ring of Doom - Faint silver and gold light CLOSE UP: Aulë is scratching his head and thinking as he looks down at something not in view. A light is coming from what he is working on.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: Yavanna and Nienna approach Aulë
Aulë: (to Yavanna) Now, I think one more additive should do it. If thou want, I could make an adjustment in the rear so that when...
Yavanna: (to Aulë, smiles and touches his shoulder) It is fine Aulë. Thou have done a great work here.
Aulë: (to Yavanna, beaming) Fine compliment coming from thee dear wife; but I am not in wont of anyone's efforts to be diminished.
Nienna: (to Aulë) They are not Lord Aulë. The efforts of all have been successful in this labor. Some hope has been restored.
Yavanna: (to all) Let us bring about the conclusion of this work and have its effect finally felt upon the world.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Manwë gets up and goes forth to the source of the light which is off screen. He holds out his hands
Manwë: (to all, clear, commanding) These are the remnants of the blessed trees Telperion and Laurelin. The silver and gold trees blessed Aman for many long ages that are all to brief in memory. Now I bless the last flower of Telperion and the last fruit of Laurelin in the name of Eru Iluvatar. They are hollowed in his name and by his power imparted unto me for his glorification. Let Arda have light abundantly so that both the first born and second born children of Iluvatar may prosper.
MED SHOT: MOVING SHOT: His hands pulsate with light the wind blows strongly for a brief moment. He then puts his hands down and walks back to Varda.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Manwë leans over, as if to whisper in her ear. Varda has her eyes closed and is concentrating greatly.
Manwë: V.O. (to Varda, genteelly) My queen, it is time for thee to put forth thy great power.
TWO SHOT CONT'D: Manwë touches her hand and she exhales and looks at him with a smile.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: She stands and takes a few steps toward the light. She looks around at those assembled.
Varda: (to all) These are great works created by Yavanna's and Nienna's power; encased in vessels skillfully wrought by the craftsman of the Valar and now hollowed by the Elder King, yet there still remains a tremendous need for two more to aid in the completion of this effort.
Manwë: (to all) Yay indeed, Varda has spoken well. Before she can perform the last step, there must be two custodians chosen for the lights that we now behold.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: MOVING SHOT: PAN ACROSS: the Valar, Maiar and Elves. Two Maiar steps forward. One is a Maia of Oromë and the other is from Vána
Tilion/Oromë Maia: (to Varda) I would go with the flower of Telperion and be its guide, if I have leave of Oromë, and the other Valar permit me.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Oromë and Vána walk together and stand near the two Maiar
Oromë: (to Tilion) Thou have been a goodly aid to me, although thy mind tends to wander at times. I will grant thee my leave. (pause) I see that a Maiar devoted to my wife would not be overlooked for the other task. I am sure that this is not of Vána's doing to match my servant's devotion?
Arien/ Vána Maia: (to Oromë, to Vána) Nay Lord Oromë, it is my own choice. (pause) Mistress Vána, do I have thy leave to pilot the vessel that contains the last fruit of Laurelin? It would be my great honor to do so.
Vána: (to Arien, happy) Yay Arien, you have my leave and my blessings.
Manwë: (to all, to Varda) And as Elder King, I see not why we should prohibit those who have come forth. Dear Varda, Queen of the Valar, proceed.
MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Varda and the two Maiar approach the lights. Tilion becomes gray/silver all over and Arien slowly takes the form of a walking flame. Varda lifts her hands up and they glow and pulsate. The silver light with Tilion floats up first. Varda: (to all) The flower of Telperion shall be first as he was first of the trees. Be mindful of thy course Tilion, and Eru bless thee on thy journey.
MED. SHOT COND'T: Tilion and the now great silver/white light keep going up slowly.

DISSOLVE: EXT: Mithrim/ wooded area MED. SHOT: Maglor, Amrod and Amras with twenty elves are gathered.
Amras: (to Amrod, low voice) Amrod, how are we going to arrive at the same time as Celegrom and the others if they are on horse back and we are not?
Amrod: (to Amras, low shrill voice) Because we are to get the signal first to advance and then send a signal to Celegrom when we are almost there!
Maglor: (to twins, stern low voice) Quiet you two; you will make us miss the signal with all that chatter.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: GROUP'S P.O.V.: They look intently through the trees at an outcrop of rocks two hundred feet in distance
Amrod: (to Maglor, low voice) It seems overlong to me Maglor.
Maglor: (to twins, low voice) Yes it does. Something is wrong. Check and see but quietly as you ever have been.
MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Amrod and Amras leave the group and with stealth, slowly approach the outcrop of rocks. They go around on either side and discover that the lookout has been slain. They look ahead and the forward scout that would have sent the signal is lying face down in the grass. Amrod motions for the group to come forward. They arrive shortly to assess the situation.
Maglor: (to twins) Amrod and Amras tell Celegrom and the others what has happened and to advance immediately. The rest of you are with me to the meeting place. Let us go quickly but be wary!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: The twins rush off to the other group in the very far distance. Maglor leads the other elves forward.
CUT TO: EXT: The meeting place MED. SHOT: Maglor and his band of elves come to the clearing were the meeting was to have taken place. They find Maedhros's entire escort of ten dead except one who is mortally wounded. Maglor tries to tend to the elves wounds as he questions him
Maglor: (to elf escort, puts cloth on wounds) What happened here?
Elf Escort: (to Maglor) Wolves and other fell beast... (cough)...hidden in the ravine...(cough, cough)...close by; came up from behind us very...quiet, caught us off guard...(Heavy coughing; spit blood)...at least two hundred...we, we, tried...to send...they took prince Maedhros...
MED. SHOT CONT'D: The elf dies with those last words as Celegrom, Caranthir, and Curufin arrive on horses with twelve mounted elves in which two carry Amrod and Amras.
Maglor: (to the arriving group) They were more prepared then we were. They took Maedhros.
Celegrom: (to Maglor) It was their intention all along no doubt.
Amrod: (to Maglor and Celegrom) We must plan a mission to recue him!
Caranthir: (to all) They will be prepared for us and have traps ready for our attempt.
Curufin: (to all) Then he is Morgoth's hostage. What will the ransom be?
MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Silence for a moment as Huan sniffs for survivors and then comes to a large black spear thrust in the ground with Maedhros's helm stuck on top. Maglor comes and takes it off
Maglor: (to all, sad and grim) The truth is, no matter what Morgoth says he wants in exchange for our brother, even if we agree to it, he will never give him up. (Sighs) Oh Maedhros...my dear brother. MED. SHOT CONT'D: He hugs the helm as the others look sad.

But despite all that we have been through, we have endured, we did not give up hope, and with determination we pressed on. Now we are on the verge of completing the march through the grinding ice. Let us now sound the silver horns to mark this occasion, as we make our way through the final remnants of the Helcaraxe into Middle-earth!

Morgoth: (to Maedhros, commanding, harsh) I sent request to thy brothers concerning thy release. All I asked was for them to take the accursed Noldor back to Aman to be tended by the lackluster Valar there, but the appointed time has pasted for thy brothers to respond. It seems that they care nothing about thy welfare. What a pity to be so undervalued and unloved.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Morgoth face turns somber and sad for a brief moment and then he smiles again with wild eyes.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Maedhros glances up at Morgoth on the throne and has fights the gut reaction of wanting to turn away from the dark evil he sees.

Large Creature: (to Morgoth, enthusiastically) Yes my lord!
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Morgoth's evil and fierce face as he snarls and smiles at the same time.
Morgoth: (to Maedhros, proud and crazed) Thou will serve as a warning to thy kin and all who oppose me. Thou will be a living signpost, and eventually a dead one, to the wayward, the arrogant, and the witless that the Lord of the World reigns here!
DISSOLVE: EXT: Westward Cliffs CLOSE UP: Maedhros face with sweat and blood, both wet and dry. His eyes are partially open and he is looking down.

MED. SHOT CONT'D: While the hammering orc talks the other two orcs drop the ropes they where holding and look out of the cave towards the sky with stunned looks.
Hammering Orc: (to the other orcs) It will be a hundred years before it loosens, and by then he would have rotten away and...(Turns to the other orcs) why are you two slacking when work needs be done here?

Fingon: (to Fingolfin) It is as you saw on that dreadful day father. They purposely grounded the ships and then set them on fire a short distance from here.
Fingolfin: (to all) Keep our people away from that place. There is no need to kindle the flame of revenge at this moment.

Fingolfin: (to Angrod) Perhaps, but I sense, something...else; nonetheless, we will stay here a while longer before we seek out Fëanor's hosts.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fingolfin stands up and looks at the moon. The others look too. PAN UP TO: the moon. PAN DOWN TO: the moon's reflections on the lake by the Fëanorian's camp.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Maglor is standing with arms crossed looking up at the moon when Celegrom rides up with Huan and dismounts.
Celegrom: (to Maglor) You were correct in you judgment to keep watch on the way behind us, although I have discovered very different reasons that we should be wary of it.
Maglor: (to Celegrom, still looking up) This is the seventh time that it has traversed the sky. Is it a sign of help, or a warning, who knows? What is your report Celegrom?
Celegrom: (to Maglor) The new light may be a warning to Morgoth of his doom but it also comes as Fingolfin finally arrives in Middle-earth.
Maglor: (to Celegrom, concerned) Fingolfin's hosts, here in Middle-earth, are you certain?
Celegrom: (to Maglor, serious) Yes, I was able to spy one of their patrols and slipped away before they could discover me. This could spell great danger for us, caught between Fingolfin and Morgoth.
Maglor: (to Celegrom) Perhaps it will not be. Fingolfin will assuredly have animosity for those who left him and his hosts stranded, but his hatred for King Finwë's slayer is even greater.
Celegrom: (to Maglor, sarcastically) Shall we receive him with open arms, and see how abundant his mercy is and how readily he is willing to forgive?
Maglor: (to Celegrom, laughing) And I thought that I was the witty one among us. (pause) Have Caranthir and Curufin help you move the camp south.
Celegrom: (to Maglor) And what are your plans?
Maglor: (to Celegrom, smiling) Well, I plan to play my strings; it has been a long while since I last played. Then I will go and meet with Fingolfin and see what...well, what I will see.
MED SHOT CONT'D: Maglor produces his harp from a pack strapped to his side. Celegrom mounts his horse and leaves with Huan. Maglor starts to play. Amrod and Amras approach Maglor from the camp.
CUT TO: TWO SHOT: Amrod and Amras
Amrod: (to Maglor) You have not played since before we crossed on the ships.
Amras: (to Maglor) Funny, I did not miss it until I heard you just now.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Maglor playing
Maglor: (to twins, smiling) I had grown weary of sing songs of things that were no more and songs filled with lamentations. Now, there may be a faint hope to sing about.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Maglor and the twins start to walk slowly back to the camp
Amrod: (to Maglor) A hope, what hope Maglor?
Maglor: (to twins) Hope of the new great light put aloft in the sky by Varda no doubt, and of Fingolfin's arrival in Middle-earth.
Amras: (to Maglor) Fingolfin's hosts have made it here? I would have thought that they would have turned back long ago.
Amrod: (to Maglor) How is the tiding about one who surely hates us hope?
Maglor: (to twins) Just pray my dear brothers, pray and hope that all will go well when we meet our brave and hearty kin. MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: He smiles as he plays and looks back to the moon DISSOLVE:

Scene: 51 - The Rising of the Sun
DISSOLVE: EXT: Northwest Lands, Mithrim and Hithlum in Middle-earth LONG SHOT: The host of Fingolfin march on through the land as the moon sets. As it disappears below the horizon, a new light is seen coming up from the opposite horizon. It is yellowish/golden and much brighter. CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fingolfin signals for the host to halt. The sun rises slowly for the first dawn.
CUT TO: MONTAGE: CLOSE UP: shots of flower buds opening, grasses growing, tree leaves growing and becoming greener. CUT TO: MED. SHOT: the faces of the princes and princesses of the Noldor as they smile, laugh, cry, and jump for joy.
CUT TO: EXT: Thick woods MED. SHOT: orcs and servants of Morgoth running, and groaning as they seek shelter from the light.
CUT TO: INT: Angband/Throne room of Morgoth MED. SHOT: Morgoth's eyes are wide in anger and terror as the light filters into Angband and the Silmarils sparkle.
Morgoth: (to Sauron, upset, yelling) What is this?! What is this...light?! (pause) Sauron! Come hither, come hither now!
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Sauron comes in trying to avoid the beams of light that are coming in.
Sauron: (to Morgoth, apprehensive) Yes lord Melkor, I am here.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Gothmog, lord of the balrogs, rushes in. He is partially surrounded by low flames and smoke.
Gothmog: (to Morgoth, dismayed) What strange thing besieges us?!
Morgoth: (to both) It is some trickery or fool invention out of Aman that assails us! We must go to the lower levels immediately! Sauron, see that all that is mine is gathered to the great lower chambers. Gothmog, marshal thy forces deep in the bowels of the fortress until I call for them!
Sauron and Gothmog: (to Morgoth, in unison) Yes my lord, it shall be done.
CUT TO: EXT: Lands of Northwest Middle-earth MED. SHOT: Fingolfin at the head of the host in the sunlight.
Fingolfin: (to all, happy) Unfurl the blue and silver banners and let us march forward in this new and blessed light!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Elves amid the hosts, unbind the banners and raise the poles erect. The banners blow in the wind and shine in the sunlight.
Fingolfin: O.S.V. (to all, loud) Onward to the enemies gates!
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: The host move forward quickly as flowers continue to bloom around them.
DISSOLVE: MED. SHOT: the hosts are now in plain view of Thangorodrim and with a sounding of the horns, they halt. Fingolfin, Fingon, Turgon, and Finrod are together at the front.
Finrod: (to Fingolfin) What do you purpose uncle?
Fingolfin: (to Finrod, Fingon, and Turgon) Morgoth's defenses must be quite formidable.
Fingon: (to Fingolfin) But we met with no opposition almost all the way to his doorstep.
Fingolfin: (to Fingon) Indeed, there has been no harassment by his servants. It may be that he has drawn them inside in preparation to defend against any assault.
Turgon: (to Fingolfin) Then what is our next course of action?
Fingolfin: (to Turgon) It is to leave here straight way, for even a small number defending the fortress of Angband would cause great casualties to who ever attacks it. We go southward my kin.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: The host turning south and march away with banners flying. They sound the horns as they leave. CUT TO: EXT: Mountain face and cliffs of Thangorodrim CLOSE UP: ZOOM OUT SLOW: Maedhros hanging on the cliff face and hearing the sounding of the horns.
Maedhros: (half awake, labored breath) Horns I hear? Father? No...No... Is it Fingolfin? Fingolfin...ha, ha...they made it...bless Eru. I am here my kin...I...am here...
MED SHOT CONT'D: He goes unconscious. ZOOM OUT CONT'D: PAN ACROSS: cliffs and caves as smoke and steams of different dark colors come out of cracks and crevasses all around.
CUT TO: EXT: Large rocky path away from the mountain range MED. SHOT: Fingolfin's hosts continue their trek south to the more wooded lands. An elf scout approaches Fingolfin.
Scout Elf: (to Fingolfin, bows, hurried) Forward scouts report that they have encountered some Noldor from Fëanor's host coming this way.
Fingolfin: (to scout, grim) How many?
Scout Elf: (to Fingolfin) There are only three.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fingolfin turns to Finrod, Fingon, and Turgon who are near by.
Fingolfin: (to Finrod) Finrod, tell your brother Orodreth to halt the hosts and abide here for a while. Have you sister Galadriel scout behind us for stragglers and the enemy. Then come ahead and join us.
Finrod: (to Fingolfin) Yes Fingolfin.
Fingolfin: (to Fingon and Turgon, low, grim) Fingon and Turgon, let us be off to meet them; bring seven of the most able bodied and skilled as a bodyguard.
CUT TO: EXT: Partially wooded area MED. SHOT: Maglor, Amrod, and Amras are in a small clearing looking at Thangorodrim in the distance which is almost obscured by smoke and dark vapors that are growing. Suddenly three elves from Fingolfin's bodyguard come out of the surrounding brush and trees. They take up positions around the Fëanorians. Then Fingolfin, Fingon, Turgon and Finrod come into the clearing with four more elves that fan out behind them. The Fëanorians bow.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fingolfin, angry, upset
Fingolfin: (to Fëanorians, upset, loud) So is this how you greet your kin, with small group sneaking up to their camp? But this is of no surprise when one considers your deeds of the past. What of Fëanor?!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Maglor, Amrod and Amras
Maglor: (to Fingolfin, hesitant, sad) Fëanor, our father, is no more. His spirit now dwells in the halls of Mandos...his body turned to ash as his spirit left. CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fingolfin and the other Noldor. His harsh look softens slightly. The others look very surprised to hear the news.
Fingolfin: (to Maglor, sternly) Come Maglor, and tell me all that befell Fëanor and those he lead.
MED. SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Maglor comes near Fingolfin and Turgon and they all turn to depart back to Fingolfin's camp. Fingon slows his pace to come close to Amrod and Amras in rear.
Fingon: (to twins) Your other brothers, where are they?
Amrod: (to Fingon) Celegrom governs the people in Maglor's stead while we are on this errand. Curufin and Caranthir scout the nearby lands to the south and east.
Fingon: (to twins, concerned) Then where is Maedhros? Did he fall as his father did?
Amras: (to Fingon, sadly) No cousin, much worse a fate than that.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: the group continues to talk ZOOM OUT SLOW:

Scene: 51 - The Rescue of Maedhros
FADE IN: EXT: Valinor during the time of the trees. DREAM SEQUENCE: LONG SHOT: FLY OVER: MOVING SHOT: Valinor seen as green and lovely with the light of the two trees. Then darkness appears and sweeps across the land with faint crying and moaning heard.
DISSOLVE: MOVING SHOT: entering the Halls of Mandos PAN ACROSS: the hall to the large tapestry. Newly weaved in and shown are the death of the trees and Finwë. The theft of the Silmarils and the Kinslaying at Alqualonde are shown too. Vairë sits past the burning of the ships and is weaving in the death of Fëanor. The shot slowly moves into a very long hallway and turns into a dark room with Mandos's back turned towards the viewer. He looks over his shoulder and moves out of the way to reveal Fëanor who is semi translucent. He looks forward sadly.
CUT TO: DREAM SEQUENCE: CLOSE UP: Fëanor Fëanor: (to Maedhros, soft, sad) Maedhros, my son, remember the oath...that terrible oath...terrible oath...
Maedhros: O.S.V. (to Fëanor, faintly) Father? Father...Fëanor...
Fëanor: (to Maedhros, soft, sad) Will you be coming soon my son? Will all my sons be coming soon?
DREAM SEQUENCE END: DISSOLVE: CLOSE UP: Maedhros's face with smoke blowing past. He has his eyes closed with tears coming down.
Maedhros: (very grieved) Father...all in vain...it is all in vain.
CUT TO: EXT: Fingolfin's camp: MED. SHOT: Fingolfin, Turgon, Maglor, Amrod, Amras and Finarfin's children seated outside a heavily decorated tent with a smoke haze in the air.
Maglor: (to Fingolfin) ...and although they out numbered us greatly, we defeated them very handedly. Since the rising of Ithil, the silvery light, the scouts of Angband ceased their probing and at the rising of Anor, the golden light, they removed from their outer outpost altogether.
Galadriel: (to all) Morgoth tries to counter the light with the smoke that he sends forth from Thangorodrim. The new light has surly been a blessing to the Eldar and a curse to him.
Turgon: (to Fingolfin) I assume that he has withdrawn to take stock of this development.
Finrod: (to Fingolfin) He may try and feign some sort of partial surrender if he has learned that we have arrived along with the new light.
Fingolfin: (to all) We must be wary; we cannot afford to fall into a treacherous trap as did Maedhros. (pause) After all that we have endured, I was still saddened to hear of his doom. Fingon was saddened by the news as well.
Turgon: (to Fingolfin) Where is Fingon? I have not seen him since we arrived back in camp.
CUT TO: EXT: Lightly wooded area. LONG SHOT: Dark mist and smoky fog float through the air. The sun is high but is partial covered by the dark clouds coming from Thangorodrim. A lone figure is seen moving silently through the terrain.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Fingon is running and jumping over obstacles in his way and pausing briefly to look around for any enemies.
Fingon: (to himself, lowly) I pray that Morgoth's evil vapor designed to hide his servants will make it equally difficult for them to spy me.
MED. SHOT: He runs through an open plain covered in the thick black mist with his sword drawn.
DISSOLVE: EXT: Rocky terrain MONTAGE: MED. SHOT: Fingon climbs steep hills, rock faces, and finally a near shear mountain side. ZOOM OUT SLOW: as the mist thickens to the point where he disappears from view.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fingon's P.O.V.: looking cautiously into abandon guard posts and watch towers. He turns and looks out behind him but the lower lands and much of the mountains are obscured by dark mists.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Fingon exiting a guard post
Fingon: (to himself, lowly while looking around) There are no signs that a posted watch has been here for some time. I suppose there is little need with this cursed vapor hiding everything from view. (pause) Where are you cousin?
MED. SHOT CONT'D: Fingon walks a short way and sits down. He holds his head in one hand thinking. He takes off his bow and a pack and lays them on the ground. He goes into his pack and takes a harp out and begins the play softly.
Fingon: (to himself, sad, sarcastic) Well this cannot hurt my chances of finding you, since if I am found out, they will probably take me straight to you...after I am properly greeted and received.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: He plays on and starts to hum a melody. Then he softly starts to sing the words to the song. ZOOM OUT SLOW: PAN ACROSS: cliffs and mountainous terrain through the mist and vapors. PAN ACROSS CONT'D: SCROLL DOWN: along wide chasms and over cliffs until Maedhros is seen hanging on the sheer mountain wall.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Maedhros starts to move his head around as the sound of the song reaches him. He laughs a little as if he is dreaming about the song. He then starts to sing too. He gets louder and starts to realize that he is not imagining the song. He sings as loud as he can. The music stops abruptly. He looks to and fro but cannot see far because of the mist. He exhales deeply and looks down and sinks into a stupor.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: Maedhros's P.O.V.: The mists clear enough to see a figure far off on a cliff looking towards Maedhros. ZOOM IN: to the face of Fingon and he fights back tears. He looks down and around at the great chasm between he and Maedhros.
Fingon: (to Maedhros, very sad, shout) Ah, there you are my friend. You made me think that I would never find you. But now I dearly wish that I had not, for my hopes of rescuing you have turned into despair. Maedhros, I am here cousin, Fingon is here!
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Maedhros roused by Fingon's shout, lifts his head up.
Maedhros: (to Fingon, sad but some cheer, shout) Fingon, is that you? I thought...but I was not sure...well, hello cousin. I am happy to see you my friend!
Fingon: (to Maedhros, shout) Maedhros, any guards ever posted here?
Maedhros: (to Fingon, tired, shout) No, they are not. They...they collapsed the tunnel leading to the cave above. None...can reach me...unless they can walk on air. Alas, it is hopeless...as you have alluded to. One favor cousin...let revenge... and mercy...be as one...please...
Fingon: (to Maedhros, dismayed) I cannot, I...cannot Maedhros.
Maedhros: (to Fingon, labored breath, loud) Yes, Fingon you must. Do not let me anguish... rotting here. End this for me now, whether out of hate for leaving you on the ice or...the friendship we once had.
CUT TO: MED SHOT: Fingon closes his eyes and clutches both fists. He then takes his bow and threads an arrow.
Fingon: (praying, low) O Manwë, Elder King, please not whole forsake the Noldor here in Middle-earth. Manwë Sulimo, Lord of the Breath of Arda, who loves all birds; guide this arrow with feather tail so that mercy may be given to the distressed.
MED. SHOT CONT'D: MOVING SHOT: Fingon takes aim and is about to release the arrow when a great eagle's cry is heard. Fingon looks as Thorondor swoops down out of the mist. Thorondor lands on the cliff next to Fingon. He hesitates for a moment but then mounts the giant eagle. They fly over to Maedhros who is amazed as the eagle hovers near him with Fingon on his back. Fingon tries to hack the loop in half and pull out the spike but cannot.
Maedhros: (to Fingon, sad, broken) It is no use. These evil implements where made to keep me here for good. Your sword Fingon; end my life now.
Fingon: (to Maedhros) If you are resolved, and believe that is my only recourse, then I am sorry for this cousin.
CUT TO: CLOSE UP: Maedhros: P.O.V.: Fingon takes a big swing towards Maedhros.
CUT TO: MED. SHOT: Thorondor flying into the mist and disappearing. CUT TO: CLOSE UP: the metal loop secured to the rock by a large metal spike and an empty bloody cuff swaying in the wind.
CUT TO: LONG SHOT: MOVING SHOT: Underneath Thorondor flying and going higher in the sky. Shot goes with him as he flies above the dark mist and towards the sun.
