Whether it's an animation or live action, it's gonna need costumes.
I propse that we have one or two people working on the costumes and weaponry for each race and people so that a) each race/peoples attire will be unique and b) different from everyone elses'.
Obviously, with the limited amount of people on the project there would be crossing over, which would be good as long as they don't truly mingle until the second film.

It is animation, just to clarify.
A few ideas-Elves when not in armour should wear tunics, kilts and (often hooded) cloaks, not those ridiculous kimono things PJ likes. Just my opinion. And I think kilts are preferable to tights.
Elven armour should resemble medieval armour, only better made, more beautiful and artistic.
Orc armour should be utilitarian and nasty, and they should pretty much always wear it. When fully on it conceals the face, hands, pretty much everything.
Men...I would cheat and give them leather trousers. Plain armour. Beards (unless brought up by Elves like Turin and Tuor)
Enough of this backseat artist!

Elves in Kilts?
Traditionalist Elves in kilts?
*drools*
Something I'd like to see is the Sindar in grays, whites and blacks and the noldor all flashy in colours.
The sindar need really sturdy, useable things. Nothing too decorative if it isn't of use, everything really well made while the noldor should be in slightly overdone weaponry, armour and clothing. It can be light and unpractical, they come from Valinor, after all. But yeah, that's what I think.

Additional to Morgul's post -- the Sindar could also wear dark green. They were fighting in the dark, true, but the stars were bright, and orcs can use torches. Plus, even if they didn't before Sunrise, they certainly would after.

The Sindar are associated with blues as well, especially, I would imagine, if at court rather than in battle. Luthien (Virgin-like) usually wears blue. As for Daeron, I've put him in yellow and green in the script, the colours of a medieval minstrel or Fool.

Yellow and green? I've always mentally dressed him in dark colours: greys, blacks, v dark blues and the like.
Must be the name.

for armor design, we decided earlier that the elves should have something that is 'pre-raphaelite'. Most armor from this movement is shaped like leaves, waves, ect. So, it of course will match. Also, we will need to keep one word and meaning in mind when designing these costumes: Simplicity Nothing too extravagant. We might need to remember this for the Valar as well, since they fashioned themselves to look like the elves.
Anyways, progress is a blessing right now...

I've got a mental image of the Sindar (and Laiquendi...basically all the moriquendi) with almost celtic armour and clothing. Simple and very practical.
Something that'd be good would be to give the moriquendi chainmaille and not the noldor...at least at first as the noldor don't really have any use for it in Valinor. Armour looks impressive, but maille is lighter and easier to move in, which suits the two different types of elves.

It depends on the case, of course. For instance, Eol and Maeglin, though they are Sindar, would probably wear Galvorn plate armour. But generally speaking, I think that's a good idea.

*nods* I have, while pro-boards has been updating, been collecting pics of clothing and items that could be used as a base for the costume designers. Email me at Nevrodiel at gmail dot com and I'll send them to you.
