For the Kinslaying at Aqualondë, how about the Mars movement from Holst's The Planets suite? It's suitably threatening and has an element of horrified fear to it.
Also, I'd be hesitant about adding pop music to a Medieval-type setting, but if you wanted to create the idea of shocked disbelief and sorrow after the whole Aqualondë thing, maybe Bid my Blood to Run, by Evanescence?
Hmm...if it was impossible to get anything suitable for certain parts, I'm sure we could record our own music -I've got some pretty good manuscripts.
If you know anything that could be used, PLEASE tell. I'm no real expert, and these are just things I thought would fit in well. I do play flute, though, if you need me for anything...
I'll leave the discussion to the professionals now.

Mars... yes, I can see that working.
As for other music... I think we should definitely write our own songs for the closing credits, just so that we could get the exact fit... actually, I'd say it would be /best/ if we could write all the incidental music ourselves, but with a budget of £0.00, that'd be a little tricky.

Mars sounds good. *nod nod* Nice idea, Starwind!
Getting already exsisting music can be tricky, because there are copyright things that could get us in trouble. If there is any way possible to just write our own music for most of it, we should go with it.
I'll be reading through Silm again to see if anything musical comes to me. *is sitting reading with blank music sheets*

Somehow Mars has always entailed marching soldiers to me.. I guess the Noldor are basically marching at that point, but perhaps it might fit slightly better in a more pitched battle? It's got no realy nautical-sounding elements, which would seem necessary for Alqualondë...
Adding modern music to the Silm.. interesting. You've now got me trying to fit Travis songs to everything available - and it works. Beautiful Bird for Elwing.. The Cage for Daeron, maybe.. Túrin might sing Why Does It Always Rain on Me?, Writing to Reach You for when Lúthien's stuck in Hírilorn, Bring Me Round for when Beren's dying, Enemy as Túrin's themesong, I Forget My Name for.. maybe when Galadriel and Melian talk to each other?
*laughs* The list just goes on and on.. a Silmarillion Travis Musical. Very much not what we're going to do, but it would be fun.
Largo from the New World Symphony (or anything from the New World Symphony, really) might work when people have Sea-longing or sail or think about the Sea, though.. it would be an Eärendil think, methinks.

Well if it helps, there's a really good freeware music writing program called Finale at www.finalemusic.com that I'm constantly using for my own evil muzac purposes. It allows you to use so many different instruments and hear the playbacks pretty realistically. I suggest you check it out!

Hum...music. How could I possibly forget?
If there's anything I can do, I'd love to. Lyrics I can definetly do, instramental stuff I can definetly work on. So...yeah, poke me if you think I may be useful.

Umm, I play French Horn (poorly), recorder, and can play up to two notes at the same time on the piano.
I also have a Music major graduate brother who has Finale, and will help if I work for him.
Modify: Thanks for reminding me Meitian: I can sing too.

If you need someone to do vocals for music for the credits, I think I could, if no one else wants to. I think I have the software to mix two tracks together, too, so whatever happens, if we have to record one part one place and the others elsewhere, then we could stick them together.

I think Debussey would work well in the scene where Beren meets Luthien. One piece I have in mind in particular is "The girl with the flaxen hair".

I can contribute any kind of vocal that you need, I'm a pretty good singer. I also play flute and can write music to a certain degree if needed.
Just thought I'd mention that.

Well, whatever anyone does, let's not make Thorondor a countertenor...
BBC LoTR anyone?

That reminds me as well, I would be willing to help with vocal/choral stuff. I've been told I sing well. Great to see so many who play intruments here, and so many with mixing equipment. Now, anyone who knows how to write music? Anyway, with so many musically inclined people here, the score should turn out pretty good. Keep it up! ~ Chronicler ~

I can sing. My parents think I sing well.. heh. Whether you think that means anything I'm not sure. But I've participated in various choral efforts and not been kicked out, which seems to be a good sign.
Aye, but Lúthien was dark-haired, and 'flaxen' implies light...
From dictionary.com:
flax·en adj.
1. Made of or resembling flax.
2. Having the pale grayish-yellow color of flax fiber: flaxen braids.

I've just been watching a series called "Firefly" and it's got some cool music, violins and such, and the theme song's cool. Perhaps a bit too Western-ish for our purposes, but I suggest some others take a look into it.
"O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana has some parts that sound like the Mordor theme. I actually thought it was the Mordor theme for a while, but then it wasn't, and I thought "We could use it for Morgoth's theme, or something."

Erm...yeah...anyway! As far as I can remember from the show (how are you watching it, by the way?) it's a bit weasternish. But, then again, I haven't seen it in a while.
