The most important theme (Because it holds the four films together): The Silmaril-Theme I thought it should be simple, but at the same time with some kind of complexity, and beautiful, of course, but at the same time ominous and anticipating the disaster. I made two versions so far with different instrumentation to show how it could be used in different situations. Majestic, stunning: Version 1Reluctant, melancholic, ominous: Version 2What do you think?

Nice... . Sounds nice... But i think [and it's just my opinion] that the themes have to be a little more tensioned... But very nice... ! Lol i wish i had time for this project more...

NIce reminds me of a few other Themes I've heard, my suggestion is perhaps to tighten it up, and perhaps add more layers so it's fuller.... I"m no expert though, I just think something as rich as Tolkiens work needs a fullness to it even if it fairly simple...
As well perhaps a notable melody, parts of it sounded like parts of Shores harmonies for the actual LOTR music.... which is still probably better than I could do!

Thanks for the feedback! What I read from your posts, it maybe needs to be a little faster and needs more ornaments and stuff. But these two files are only sketches. Of course, it will have to be modified so that it works together with the pictures, voices, and sound effects in a certain scene. Then the sound must not be too full, but leave some space for the other elements. We'll see.
@ fuin elda Actually I made this melody in late 2000 when I made Tolkien inspired music (but not as a movie score), so plagiarism of Shore's work is impossible - in this case. ;-)

Derlue, I am sorry I am overlate visiting you here on this thread. I've been so focused on the script because my time is limited. In about three weeks I will be off-line and may not be able to re-connect until sometime in January, depending on my living situation and financial situation.
In any case, I am as handicapped with music as you are with writing, but for the record I chose version #2. I liked it better just as a listner, but I agree with speeding it up a little.
It appears that hS hasn't given you any input. Might I suggest you bring it to his attention. Again with only the 4 of us being currently active at this point and he being "in charge" I think this is something we need his input on. I know, I know, I've been keeping him busy in the writing section and he hasn't had time to look at anything else. My bad. I take all the blame for that.
Please do give us some more to listen to. Take a look at the script we have so far and see if you can match up the music. That would be way cool.

I may be "in charge", although Manwe I wish I wasn't, but I'm really very much a Script editor. I'm very, very bad with listening to music -- unless there's something obviously /wrong/ with it, I won't be able to offer any useful comments.
I did listen to these when you posted them, and I think my thoughts now are the same as they were then: mostly, that there's a really dodgy three note set at the end of the second one (an artefact of the program you used to make them, I know). But, in general, then... as others have said, a bit slow, especially for the early Silmarils, which are still unsullied and perfectly happy with their lot. Then the later ones, when we see them, are mostly burning people or things... I can see this version being used when they retrieve the Silmaril from Carcharoth, a few times with Elwing, and when Earendil takes to the skies. But for FotN? Not, I believe, in quite this form.
Can I also say that the Two Trees and the Sun and Moon share the same light as the Silmarilli? And thus that you might want to bring certain similarities into their themes? That's just an idea from me as a writer, though.
ALSO! Tamitha, you really don't need to get my input on everything. I do watch to see who's posted what around the board, and if I don't comment, it's usually because I don't think I'd be useful there. Perhaps that's wrong of me, but... I was appointed moderator over the Screenplay section. The rest of the board is a strange country to me -- although, if Chronicler ever returns, I'll recommend that she make Derleu mod over this section.

My goodness, you are awefully fussy. I wasn't asking for your input on everything. There are only a few of us here right now, if we were in a position to be physically all sitting a room together sharing what we have we would be laughing and having a good time (I hope) and saying to each other, "See what you think about this?" As it is we are all sitting in a room together on-line and I said "Hey, come here and check this out." You could have easily said "No comment" and no one would have been offended. I don't do music either, but I know if I do or don't like something when I hear it
Please relax a little bit. I wasn't suggesting that you didn't watch the board. I do too and I don't always say anything either. I just thought it was fun to take a break from the script and visit the music department and see what they were up to.
And unfortunately, without Chronicler, or anyone else for that matter and since Derleu, Starlight and my-self just joined within the last few months we look to you. You are the only staff member on board right now.
Isn't it grand? You get to be Ingwe, King of all the Elves! (I know how much you love the Vanya) Now smile for me, and lighten up! Geez, I think I'll head out for work now. It's less intense there than it is here. (Just kidding! Just kidding!)

I'm a very fussy person.
No, seriously, I'm sorry. I'm just... not really a takes-charge sort of person (I can get away with saying this, because no one here knows me from the PPC), so being put in a position where such a thing is only a little short of inevitable is very jarring.
And, alas, I'm going to have to break your analogy a little -- if we were all sitting in a room laughing together, etc etc, I'm afraid I'd be the one sitting alone in a corner with a notebook. That's... just the sort of person I am. 'course, that's a lot easier with more people, or when no one knows who I am... le sigh.

Can I also say that the Two Trees and the Sun and Moon share the same light as the Silmarilli? And thus that you might want to bring certain similarities into their themes? That's just an idea from me as a writer, though. Good idea. Silmarillion is a book full of connections between plot motifs, so similar musical ideas can hold them together. I thought of making a kind of 'construction plan' for the whole thing, but then it sounds maybe too 'constructed' at the end. It must always fit to the pictures. As I said before, these are only sketches, themes can be varied in thousands of ways. Also if you people have a certain theme for something in mind, write it down or sing it, record it, send it over!

I just got this totally silly thought. I was listening to the themese derleu posted, and they reminded me of Pachlebel's Canon--it's funny because Zales diamonds used that song for their jewelry commercials...lol...i'm such an airhead.

Has anyone listen to Ted Nasmith's "Beren and Luthien: A Song Cycle"? I like the instruments used and the singing is not that bad. Take a listen at his website. www.tednasmith.com/music.html

I just had another brilliant thought (they come to me sometimes): I really like the new Batman soundtrack in congruence with anything Tolkienien. I know we can't use that music because of the copyright, but music like that stirs my soul something fierce whenever I hear it. Maybe we could pattern our music after that style or something...I dunno.

I think the Dark Knight's soundtrack was great. I even have a part of it saved to my iPod. We could use it as a template to make our own. Great idea HV. I just hope that we can get someone who is musically inclined to pursue it.

And that certainly would not be me, lol. I think that music like Batman's would only make the project rock even more. It's intense and dark and sets the mood. Great stuff. Hans Zimmer is absolutely brilliant.
