You think any of us are 100% caught up on things? I'm writing one of the scripts, and I don't know what's going on either.
Y'know, people, microphones are going to be a problem... especially if the initial recordings have to be movie-quality. I mean, I have a microphone -- I only have access to it for about a third of the year, though -- but it's a cheap one. The recordings are filled with static. Does anyone have software to clean that up? Or to integrate dozens of recordings into a single uniform-quality soundtrack? Because if not, we may as well pack up and go home now.
EDIT: I stand corrected. I'm taking the microphone with me. Yay!

I'll see what's available to me next term. I don't have my VP class yet. A whole term of waiting...

Well, my brother tells me that he can clean up a lot of the static on mic recordings, although it's 'tricky'. He doesn't have the most time in the world (works a lot of hours), but if we can't find anyone on this site that can do it, we might be able to enlist him...

I know some people with massive amounts of recording equipment. But, as with Estel's brother, they are very busy and don't have much free time to help us out. Gneh. I curse my crummy, mic-less computer. ~ Chronicler ~

And I'll curse mine again, also. My brother says that he thinks he'd have time to do some...so I don't know if we're going to move on with the voices or not...

If you have a karaoke machine, they generally do pretty good recordings. It's possible to transfer tapes to computers without any quality loss, although you do need some specialized equipment. Although any electronics store person should be able to help you find the stuff. (It's possible, we do it all the time at our house. With records, too.)
There are numerous sound-editing suites that can clean up recordings - I use Roxio at home, but there's probably loads of others, too.

eh... so I guess the vote is some sort of Anime. I wish I could afford the system used to create shrek but, alas... Ka is not rich... Also, I have never drawn anything anime related... So, I don't know how to. I really don't know how that's going to work... It wouyld be kindof horrible if i tried and it ended up like the animated LOTR from the 70's. BAD. For voices, I think I might be able to do both male and female. For female, it would be a low eastern european hinted voice. I can get by very well with a mild english accent. For a male, well it would be a little higher and drone-like... Sleepy almost... (Sorry! That's what happened when I had to play a sage in a school performance. Other children thought I sounded like a boy... : . okay, just a intro. For microphones, i'm in the process of accquiring one but, don't expect great quality...

I could probably voice male or female. I've sung the tenor part in school choir before and should be fine if I'm not expected to be very low. I have no mic, though, and can't think of a way to access one at the moment.

I could probably do either male or female if I had to. Like Tatharien, I can sing tenor if it's not too low. And I've been told I'm scarily good at imitating voices. (Ka--I'll have to do my Jareth voice for ye sometime ) Anyways--I'm happy! My VP class starts tomorrow!

(Oh, yeah, I forgot, If you seen Hedwig and The Angry Inch, Ka can do hedwig like you have never imagined!) Only problem is... Who in this wonderful book is a hedwig? Hmm...

Another thing on voices (maybe I should post this in the cast list thread instead), obviously it's a good thing for the person voicing the character to decide on their own how the character should sound, but are their any sort of guidlines? For example, do we want any elves talking in the softy voice we hear from Legolas, or do we want to totally avoid that? We could sort've give out some generally accepted guidlines for voices (ie: Thingol somewhat like Elrond in the movies?) to give people an idea what to shoot for. Just a thought...
p.s. and also bad guys.: the stereotypical bad guy voice is not a good thing, but sometimes it's hard to avoid...

There are many stereotypical bad guy voices. Depends on the bad guy...
Morgoth will be difficult; so deceitful and yet so blunt, oozing power.
Sauron I imagine as a "Wormtongue"-like voice.
Celegorm and Curufin, or Celegorm at least, should have flawless posh British accents. If I ever get a mike, (big if) I'd like to try for these...
