Just what the title says. What are your favourite scenes/chapters in The Silmarillion? Why are they your favourites?

EDIT: Title, and purpose, altered slightly.

It's so hard to pick one, which is, I imagine, why no one's replied. I'll choose a few, roughly in chronological order:
The Oath of Feanor
The rescue of Maedhros
Beren killing the orc-captain
Beren laughing at Thingol "For little price do elvenkings sell their daughters"
Beren throttling Curufin
Beren trying to get a second Silmaril, and snapping Angrist
The whole Nirnaeth Arnoediad-especially
Turgon's arrival with the hosts out of Gondolin
Gwindor's charge, stupid though it was
Maglor killing Uldor the Accursed (he doesn't just sing!)
Huor's prophecy "with the eyes of death"
Hurin's last stand "Day shall come again!"
Maeglin's duel with Tuor (damned humans!)
Maedhros looking for Elured and Elurin
Earendil slaying Ancalagon
Maglor's moral crisis and non-death
There...

All of the Ainulindale (words have POWER!) and Huan vs. Carcharoth (because that was really a nice, epic good versus evil fight). I also quite liked the tale of the Third Age at the end of the Akallabeth for the extra background. Poor Isildur. He was so cool! He rescued the saplings of the Tree!

Beren telling Elu that the Silmaril is in his hand. *giggles* I love that part!
Although my favourite of favourites is not even mentioned - you have to read between the lines to even know about it. Maglor's brief time as High-King, if you must know. Wonderful stuff, so full of plotbunnies and other things. Alas, I must make do with the imaginings of my mind rather than words.

I saw a brilliant fanfic in which Fingon went in a fury to persuade Maglor to send an army to rescue Maedhros, and Maglor manipulated him into going off himself...

Right now, my favorite quote from the Silmarillion is when Melkor tells Ungoliant, "Dost thou desire all the world for thy belly?" I think of it when I'm eating out.

When Fingon rescues Maedhros...hands down. I've seen a lot of artwork depicting that scene, and they make it all the more moving and powerful.

Another one of my favorite scenes isn't really in the Silmarillion, but in the Children of Hurin when Morgoth has Hurin chained atop a peak in the Thangorodrim. They exchange some banter--Morgoth and his god complex--and then Hurin says something that has stuck with me since the first moment I read it: "Beyond the Circles of the World you shall not persue those who refuse you."
Wow. Talk about powerful.
That is soooooo going in my script.

well im a bloodthirsty kinda guy so in my mind the fall of gondolin is the best bit, the sheer scale of it, all the balrogs and dragons besieging the glowing white city!, but my favourite lne is where hurin tells Turgon: "Go now, lord, while time is! for in you lives the last hope of the eldar, and while Gondolin stands Morgoth shall still know fear in his heart"
